So I love COD4 and WAW and play them both often as do many of my friends. I'm a runner and gunner and prefer the fast paced gameplay of team deathmatch and free-for-all. I consider myself decent at COD4 with a k/d ratio of 1.51 and 1.50 on WAW. Recently I have been quoted by many of my friends and acquaintances saying, "I only play hardcore.". Like this is some kind of elite gaming mode where only the real killers dwell. Well I decided to take a shot at it and found it to be full of campers. I know many will say it takes more strategy because it is more realistic. Bull@#*+...How much strategy does it take for over half the people in the map to just sit there waiting for somebody to run by. Honestly on some of the game modes before you spawn you can sit there and watch some guy not even move. Its ridiculous. Camping takes no skill and lowers my opinion of you as a person. I know this will stir up a hornet's nest but I want to hear opinions. I'm Chad Magnum on xboxlive.

Yeh that happens, there was a time when campers were hunted, that was fun. I never played COD4 or WAW online so I don't know what its like but from your description they are all pretty much just crap people who can't actually play the game so they just sit there and wait for a sniping point...explosives usually work against campers...sneaking up to them and grenades sort of thing, or just get reasonably in site of their position and then lob a grenade.
Hardcore is for noobs. It's more likely to aim and hit one or two bullets than the usual amount. The more damage players can take, the more skill the game takes. The reason why I play UT3.
A camper that just sits in one spot isn't a good strategy, because once you get killed by him once you know his position, so next time make a point of finding and killing him, preferably with a knife to show how close you can get without being detected.

Yeah what he said. I was going to say almost the exact same thing. Different game modes have different stratagies. You cant run and gun in hardcore if you are playing another team that is staying back. I really like this aspect of hardcore, and love to snipe WITHOUT the enemy being able to see the killcam and know where I am. You know what campers hate....frag times 3. You know why? Because in hardcore some people are used to not using many gernades because they dont want to kill their team, but if you comminicate with your team and tell them what you are doing, and since the frags kill very easy in hardcore you can just be like.... frag...killed that guy in his spot...another frag....2 more....CALL in UAV....3rd frag...thats 4 dead..... still have UAV so shoot the 5th....RETREAT! and call in your airstrike and put it on their entire team....call in chopper....win game. I do that all the time. I am not saying I am the best person in the world at this game, I just know stratagy.
basically alot of people use hardcore to get the challenges with rifles cause its easier kills and doesnt give away your position so yeah expect lots of campers

I agree i do a bit of camping/attacking but never pure run and gun. Why run infront of the enemy fire? I'll take one or two out then retreat for a better spot to take out more people. I don't like running infront of the enemy i prefer to use my head. Only game i run infront of the enemy is TF2 but i have other tactics in that game.
I'm one of those people that wont play any other mode other than hardcore. For the simple reason, of not having to unload a freakin' clip into someone in order to take them out. There are plenty of people that run and gun in hardcore mode, I play with plenty of them. If you find yourself in a match with campers then seek them out. If we get into a match with a team of campers we have no problem seeking them out....it's all about countering their strategy and that in itself is the appeal of hardcore mode. I could care less if you tube, camp or claymore it up...you can and will be taken down.
I say quit complaining about it and start using your head and campers wont be a problem anymore. ;)
It may be just a change of strategy for you. If you are a run and gun type of person then it just means that you have to slow down a little more in Hardcore and use your team. I am new to the Hardcore playlist and I have to say I enjoyed it last time I played. I too am a run and gun type play person, you just need to be a little slower and stick with your team mates on Hardcore.
i love it when someone cant take getting beat and tortured and they are so hot off it they have to come to gamespot to make a topic to moan about it. they must of beat you bad! just shape up, camping aint the best stratergy you should know where they after they kill you. and its usualy because you just run everywhere trying to find people in the open. no wonder they hammer you by camping.

I love it when someone contributes absolutely nothing to a topic. I think camping is pretty annoying, as it greatly slows down a match when lots of people do it. Fortunately in the games I play, most people really suck at it, so it's all fine.

So I'am guessing CoD4 could be called Camper Warfare. Look it's a legit strategy but in hc it's easier to kill them so use UAV jammer and sneak up on them there is always mutliple ways to get to an enemy throw a grenade, shoot through the wall etc.

If you think about it, it makes more sense to stay covered up in an advantageous position than to run around the map shooting wildly and jumping like a fairy. The strategy isn't without its flaws, though, and you can easily take advantage of these to send the campers crying to mommy. In CoD4 specifically, you have a very, very useful tool in the smoke grenade. Forget flash bangs, smoke is what you want in hardcore. If you know someone is camping ahead, pop a couple of smokes ahead of you and BOOM you've got a free pass right up to their front door AND the won't know where you are. Also, don't fall into the trap on continually going the same way and letting them pick you off over and over again, try flanking or coordinating with your teammates to distract them. I know, communicating with your team is unthinkable, but it helps. :)

yeh i agree its a strategy. once in COD4 my whole team just kept running back to where they died im like "dudes flank em, quit going over there" no one listed and i was the only one that had 2x as kills than deaths. after the match a guy on my team says "you guys a campers" the guy replies "why should i move if you just keep running back to the same spot and basically letting me kill you?" the guy on my team says nothing. on another note if your not that good or just started playing move slower and stick with a team mate (even if you arent communicating with him/her there is strength in numbers) most of the time
