for me when my xbox breaks (which seems to happen alot) I return to bestbuy to get it replaced, well they always give my back the memory and change the console itself well now they don't let you do that and it pisses me of and now you have to pay for a new warranty (a 4-year plan for me) which i can't do anymore.

has it been that way for anyone else?

Mine wouldn't stay connected to the internet. I brought it in with my 2-year replacement plan and they switched out the console, let me keep my hard drive. It was from xmas of '06 so it was a little over a year old. Now I got a new 360 (falcon chip too) and I had no problems. :)

I don`t know what you guys are talking about. I took my 360pro in on friday (which cost 399 new) and told them it had been freezing. They let me trade it fo an elite for only 50 dollars (450) more, no questions asked.

Mine got the red ring of death about a year ago. I had the warranty through Best Buy, I grabbed a new 360 and switched out the HD. I don't know if store policy has changed at all, but just be firm about switching. After all, it is your games stored on there. Besides the 360 you're turning in will be shipped off to who-knows-where which means no profit for BB. At least you switching out the HD gives them a shiny new HD to re-sell.

I was, most definitely and now I tell anyone who's buying something where a warranty is offered there. I was screwed over on a 360 warranty, my buddy was on a iPod warranty and my brother was on a his TV warranty. So I never plan on buying a extended warranty from them again

I had a great experience with my Best Buy purchased 360. I purchased the three year replacement plan and when it broke they told me I could get a like product, or get equal value in store credit. I chose the store credit, added $80 to the price and received a new elite. This worked out great for me because I have a 1080p television that will only accept it through hdmi.

Really!? I have been wondering if I could do that. If I get the money, I'm going to have to try that (I need another 50 for another warrenty (don't want to be stuck with MS's crap)).

Take the xbox to another Best Buy or just talk to the manager. That rep you were talking to is obviously an idiot.

FIGHT THIS THING TO THE END!!! NEVER SURRENDER!!

My understanding was that they would give you a completely new one. If I had that I would have just paid an extra 50 for the elite. And they always make you pay for a new plan.

i've never had a prob with BB or their warranties. my 360 got the rrod in early jan. i went and fieled my claim online like it said to do on the paper, then it said i had to mail it to texas or something, then wait fro store credit. but it was about 3 weeks after i sent it in when i got my store credit.

so waiting kinda sucked, but i didnt want to hesitate and go to a store and have them tell me i have to do what the paper says, so i just mailed it in.

My xbox360 has yet to fail me, but in any case, I did purchase the 2yr warranty from BB.
