I had to buy a new gears of war about a month after I got the game because the the 360 couldn't read the disc. When I carefully examined the disc I found a small crack extending from the center of the disc. I thought it was caused by something other than my 360 so I disregarded it.

Yesterday my lost planet disc wouldn't work. When I examined the disc I found that there was a crack in the same exact area as the one on my gears disc.

So has anybody else had this problem? For the record, I NEVER move my 360 and I have it sitting horizontally. Should I call microsoft?

I just dont believe a rom drive can crack a disc. My thoughts are this...They crack when taking them out of the disc box..I have had 2 discs break or "crack" while taking them out of the box cause it was so tightly set in.

Think it happens when you thrash a game, this disc heats up and is then is easier for cracks to appear.

I believe this is the reason. Just take a emery board and lightly sand down the edges on the center button that holds the disc on. Take it down just enough that you can get the disc out with minimal  effort.

Or how about I just put my games in a cd case?

Cracks happen. Happened with Neverwinter Nights. Didn't happen to me, but it happened to enough people that they had to ship out replacements and they mentioned it had something to do with the batch used during manufacture. Of course, I've seen people rip them out of the dvd cases without pressing down the middle first. That will eventually lead to damage, I'd imagine.

My Oblivion disc cracked the same way. I eventually had to replace it (by buying another copy).  My theory is the disc gets hot and makes it crack easier when pulled in and out of the jewel cases.  Let the disc cool a bit before putting it back in the case is my suggest.
