Is halo reach different then halo 3 or its still all the same pretty much a new game?

i played a ton of halo 3 and i can say its different but i can see how the average halo gamer has not seen to much change.
Yes, I want to know this as well. I really dislike the Halo 3 multiplayer because of no sprint ability and the inability of choosing your weapons prior to spawn. Reach seems to rectify this though I'm still hesitant of purchasing it. I've played Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3 and I didn't like any one of them to be honest.
It is familiar to Halo vets, but it is different at the same time. The overall feel of the gameplay is what it has been. But with the new abilities like Armor Lock, Sprint, Jet Pack and Invis plus different loadouts to choose from when spawning makes it so much more fun. Then when you consider the fact that you can now perform assassinations on unsuspecting opponents is a very satisfying new addition as well. I also love all of the new gun like the DMR Rifle, Covy Plasma lancher and of course the new/old Pistol from Halo CE is back as well.
It feels different and fresh while still feeling like Halo. The armor abilities and loadouts add a whole new level of strategy and the new objective based gametypes are a lot of fun. There are some new weapons to keep things interesting as well.nate_c-12
I'd agree 100% with Nate. Don't forget about the holographic image abilities too. That "power up option" has come in handy in some situations so far.

It plays nothing like Halo 3.
Good to know you never played the game, but he asked for people who did play it.
I played all the Halo's upon release. Read all the books. A Halo 3 MC action figure is sitting atop my Tv right now. (protecting it) I love the Halo IP. Don't assume cause I have a COD sig and avatar I'm a paticular "TYPE" it makes you look stupid... er!!! Halo this console generation ain't ****. The franchise hasn't pulled in a newer audience since H3. (ODST wasn't gonna do) For some of the early fans its just not good enough anymore. We've matured, it hasn't. I've been gaming over 20 years and Halo is apart of that... This year I re-played H:CE and H2 without a shadow of a doubt I'd take last gens Halo... Period. H3 added innovative features, but the gameplay was mediocre. Reach uses the H3 engine so yeah Beta looked and played "JUST LIKE HALO3". Maybe you didn't play it.No, it played very different and so does the actual game.
I didn't ask for a life story, I don't give a ****. IF you think it plays exactly like Halo 3 then obviously you never played it. Making up a fake biography isn't going to cut it..
By default whatever sensitivity you played ODST at was the default setting the Beta started you at. I played ODST at 8 the Beta started me at 8. Did you know this? WHY WOULD ANOTHER GAME DEFAULT MY SENSITIVITY TO THE PREVIOUS ITERATIONS SENSITIVITY UNLESS CONTROLS WERE 1/1. So it controlled EXACTLY like H3. Halo's had invisibility and overshield since forever and H3 introduced everything else. (except jetpacks) So no, its not far enough of a departure to say its ANY different from H3. Mind you thats the Beta, the finished product might surprise me leaps and bounds. We'll debate tuesday after I borrow a copy... If Bnet didn't delete the Beta stats I'd link my stats to shut you the **** up. Halo is great... If all you have is an Xbox.YoungSinatra25
Cool. I own all systems so there goes that generalization. I also know numerous people who are primarily PC gamers like myself and yet still have fun with Halo. It's actually not all that bad once you stop being ignorant.
Lol @ the games playing exactly the same. Yes they are similar but every sequel plays similar to it's predecessor, that's kind of why it's a sequel and not a new IP. I wouldn't care what your stats said by the way, because you saying they play exactly alike is more than enough proof you didn't even touch the game or if you did, you already went in with your stubborn and extremely biased point of view, so no matter what you were going to hate on it thus making your opinion of the game biased and irrelevant.
It's very very different which is why im reluctant to even buy reach. Im a huge fan of halo 3's online its my favorite multiplayer ever and reach's online is so much different i dont know if I'm going to like it or not with all the changes. I was expecting bungie to just add in some new weapons and maps but they completely remade the online. Ill probably be very pleased with reach's campaign but if i want to play halo online im playing halo 3.

Well, I am sure that Halo 3 will still have a decent online community even after Reach ships. Plenty of people like Halo 2 multi better than Halo 3's and didnt switch. So just continue playing 3. I personally loved the Reach Beta. Its exactly what I was waiting for. Halo has evolved into what I wanted. Maybe it will grow on you, or maybe certaqin game types will mimic Halo 3.

That's a foreign concept on consoles.
The major players like Sony and Microsoft have made people believe that you cannot play older games from the series once a new one comes out. I know a lot of people who love Halo 3 (I don't know why, I think it's boring and bad) and they didn't like Reach, so they said they're going to switch to Black Ops or Medal of Honor.
Yeah there are plenty of changes and upgrades to the game although much of the core gameplay is basically the same though, since if it wasn't it would probably be a different game (and if you're expecting that, you might as well just play a different game).

For the former, i think it has to do more with a bandwagon mentality for the mainstream. Most people usually want the latest and greatest (why do you think whenever Apple releases a new iPod or iPhone, people buy it in droves) as well as they are better suited to change (motion controls for example). This happens less with PC gaming as they are more diehards than the others, and diehards tend to have more nostalgia, not to mention the games could be played on future iterations of pcs and os's better than future iterations of a console.
For the lattter, that's kinda ironic that they would "convert" to another game because of changes to Halo but are willing to accept the changes of converting to a new franchise.

The over shield is not in Halo Reach. The closest to it is the armor lock which has almost nothing in common with it. Armor lock makes you invincible, overshield did not. Armor lock forces yo to be stationary while in use, overshield did not. Overshield was a pick up, armor lock is something you choose while respawning. You can stop using armor lock when you wish and when the bar empties you can reuse it once it recharges. That is not the case at all for over shield.
Invisibility is different too. In Reach it scrambles yours and your enemy's radars, that was not the case in previous Halo games. In previous Halo games invisibility held up well even while moving. In Reach you have to stand completely still or be crouch walking to remain completely invisible.
The fact you spawn with these abilities and you can use them again and again really makes Reach feel very different from previous Halo games. And some armor abilities allow players to do things that were not possible in any form in previous Halo games like using holograms, sprinting and jet packs.
And Halo is a great game, regardless of what platform you have. I don't see any point in you playing the game though. It seems you've already decided that it's exactly like every other Halo game, regardless of the evidence against that. Going in it with your attitude serves no purpose other than getting your imaginarey legit Halo b!tching license.
