Silver Xbox Live is free but you can't play online with it. So I dont think they would give you 3 months of free Silver, since its free all the time. Maybe youre talking about Gold Xbox Live, which is the one that lets you play online? I'm not exactly sure. No clue about your 3 months.

Silver is the basic, free, xbox live subscription. Gold is the paid for subscription that allows you to play online and have access to some extra content for free.

the 3 months of gold is really 3 1 months. every time you create a new account and when you get to the membership part it shoul;d ask you about approving the 1 month gold. after 3 of them you wont be asked when you make account. you should really get hard drive

Like k2 said, you get a free month of XBL gold on up to 3 new accounts per new xbox. So sign up for your account and select the free silver account that's free and then you'll get a message saying you're getting a free month of gold. You can do this up to 3 times, but you'll have to make a new account with new e-mail for the 3 times doing it. Then you can choose which one you'd like to keep or if you want to keep all of them you can. You can buy the 60gb starter kit which comes with 1 year of live, 60gb hard drive, and headset.(I believe that's the contents of it.) Silver accounts are free and only used to play online, join private chats online (so you can play a single player game while online and chatting with your buddy). Also, downloading demos and other DLC to games and sending messages. Having a friend list is another thing. You'll need Gold for the best part.
