Gamer? the one with Gerard Butler? you'll know what I mean if you have seen this movie...

you will probably imagine what the hell has this got to do with xbox 360?

Well, the reason I bring this up, why cant we have a Kinect game like this? If you have seen the movie, surely MS could develop something like this, a good 3rd person shooter on the kinect would be awesome

the guys over at MS need to watch this movie and get inspired LOL. Obviously i dont mean copy the storyline of the movie just kind of look at the gamer part of how he controls Kable, (You will have seen the 3rd person shooting part where the gamer is controlling kable, stood in front of the tv moving his arms and fingers and stuff, looks achievable with Kinect)

Can't be done. In the movie they had convicts that did the running. Doubt MS would participate to do that. You can't run with kinect. Also, the kinect isn't some super computer like in that movie ... Kinect has lagg and registering your fingers to pull a trigger would be very hard. No, not happening.

You'd have to have a very expensive complex gaming room to do so, and we wouldn't be able to use convicts because that's considered inhumane.

Maybe if we just took control over a player model like any other FPS, then it could be achievable.

But it probably wouldn't happen until about 20 years or so.

I really don't think the topic creactor was trying to say we should use real life convicts for shooters, just that having that kind of interface for a game with Kinect would be cool. It actually does sound doable, but I've never used Kinect so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

The "Society" bits were awesome. Such an over the top sarcastic slap in the face to online gaming worlds like "Second Life" and the sorts. I thought it was really well done.

And as far as a Kinect game with controls like that, the only one that I know of so far is the Paintball portion of Hudson's "Deca Sports Freedom". You would step forward to move forward, and turn at and angle to turn your view in the game... I forget how they said you shoot...

Anyways... the thought process is there, but the execution is reportedly horrible. I was going to buy the game in anticipation of Kinect's first "Shooter" game with body movement controls, but nope. And everything else for Kinect is on rails or stationary.

I hope "Rare" holds tech meetings with every other developer out there that is working on a Kinect game. The Kinect motion controls work awesome for Kinect Sports. And they also need to drop the whole "you are the controller" bit and develop a gun to work with Kinect titles. Like someone else said, the Kinect isn't good enough to register precise finger motions like that. They need to suck it up and admit they need a device.

thumbs up to the only person who can read properly :P i NEVER mentioned using convicts for a real life game with kinect :/ or having tv's going round the room and alll the other rubbish, did any1 read anything i said beside jump to conclusions and start crticising? , just the general gameplay of a 3rd person like in the movie, for example (again) the gamer controlling a 3rd person character via kinect

learnt to read before you can write, i never said anything about using real life people or copying the movie, i specifically said not using the storyline... I meant the general user interface of the game, I dont see whats the hard part to get around??? and when did i ever say anything about a super computer? I just meant a 3rd person shooter aspect and how the guy controls the game FYI, apparently forza motorsport 4 will use something like your foot to register acceleration, so something could be used like a hand or you could get a gun controller with a trigger, just like you can get a guitar controller for guitar hero

Just read now, i skim read first time round and thought you was jus talking about society, u make some valid points though, if you incorporated a gun controller (like i posted in a previous post without reading yours previous :P - great minds think alike) you could achieve it all. The controls would be easy to simulate, specially with a gun type controller, for example reloading, kinect could sense your arm moving to the gun control and then the control could send the information of you reloading to throw a frag grenade you could do the action etc, im sure they could figure some methods out easy enough, it would be easily achievable though as to the running. maybe you could have your guy automatically moving, like the star wars kinect game looks like? could be like an arcade game but 3rd person? maybe you could even point the controller away from the screen to move and once you aim at something the characted stops to aim? possibilities are endless

Well, Hudson had good ideas down for the controls, but someone really screwed it up and the results suck, so I've heard.

In the paintball game, you start standing at a certain spot in your room. That is kind of calibrated as your "point of origin", I guess. If you step forward, your character on screen walks forward. To get your character to stop walking, you step back to your POO (point of origin... get your mind out of the toilet, lol ) The same went for backing up and strafing, I believe. I think you made a hand potion to shoot your gun. Anyways, like I said, the concept is there, but the delivery failed.

I'm at work now, but I keep trying to checkout the YouTube video of the guy using a Kinect WITH Wii controllers hooked up to a PC system to control a Call of Duty game.

POO nice lol, here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo7QUdrZAkA if you replaced the wii gun with a good assault rifle type controller with a reload 'slider' type thing, maybe some iron sights, well, plastic sights. and maybe a small thumbstick which you could easily control with a finger,,, or maybe you could go with the idea i put it b4, point the rifle away from the screen, ur character starts moving , use your head to look around as normal which would also point you in the direction you wanted to go, when you point back at the screen, character stops and aims. point the rifle straight down to sprint, yano where im coming from... the vid is ok, some tweaking it could be great we should apply for jobs for this kinda stuff LOL

Yeah, I liked the movie but definitely had a couple WTH? moments too.

Like that dance scene towards the end. That was a bit much. It reminded me of that cheesy ass part in Boondock Saints II, when the female fed is walking on the table and shooting at stuff. Both scenes should have been... ummm... how do I say this... done differently? Heavily edited? Left out altogether?

Sorry, I read too fast I gyess... Still leaves walking, looking around... You'd also have to hold a gun someway the Kinect can recognize it. I imagine it would cause glitching. We can't add a plastic gun like this other certain console, that would kill the kinect's tagline of being the controller honestly...

Well for one, the movie failed at the Box Office, so they would't try to pursue a game for it. And also, I doubt Kinect could support it. It would be cool though.

IMO that movie was terrible. As far as the Kinect thing I really don't want to hold up my hand like its a gun or something.

That movie was terrible. Not only disgusting but it overused the F word entirely to much - it was cheesy. If you liked it, good for you but I thought it had a very stereotypical view on gaming, maybe that was the point but who is watching this movie? Why do I want to watch a movie which is practically making fun of the gaming.

WTF? how many times do i have to say i dont wanna copy the storyline or kill convicts via an internet linked game!!! I didn't even wanna talk about how good or rubbish the movie was either stop been dumb and READDDDDD!

I was simply talking about the user interface of the game in the movie and how kinect could develop a 3rd person shooter! FML
