Has Halo left a legacy? Despite what some people think about the game in the 6 years the Halo franchise has done more then most other franchises. Hype apart the record breaking sales and pre orders, along with multiple novels and merchandise. A movie being directed by Peter Jackson himself and other venues. Do you believe that Halo has left a legacy?

Yes, the game will be remember for all of the avenues it took gaming to. The movie (we hope) the novels, the merchandise, etc. Halo has created its own place in society and language. While it may never achieve the cult following of Star Wars, it will be a game that is remembered for a long long time for what it did to gaming.

The thing is that Halo isn't done yet (while the story arc of Master Chief is) so more can happen. More games, books, and movies i think will for sure make Halo have a legacy.

Can you really compare Halo to StarWars? StarWars has 6 films, way more books, a animated series, a ton more collectables, and overall more games based in the universe. Halo right now has 3 games, about 5 (or more) books, no films (yet), and collectables that are still on a small scale compared to StarWars.

20 years from now I doubt there will be any talk of Halo or any Halo conventions it dosent have 1/8 of the Star Wars audience and dosen't have any major cliffhangers that will make people go out and make 3 new movies or games. Sure people will still play it but theres gonna besomething brand new in no less than 2 or so years that will make the halo fans forget about it.

I Dis-agree very much

HALO in NO WAY is as strong a franchise as MARIO, ZELDA or METROID. No I am not a Nintendo Fanboy but if you take a look at the top video game franchises of all time, you'll see these names appear.

Halo, unlike Mario, Metroid and Zelda has a STORY ARC which means it has a beggining and an end. The characters of those other games atre timeless - unlike MAster Chief.

For Bungie to bother making any more Halo games would cheapen the entire storyline of HALO simply because HALO 3 "finished the fight".

That is not to say I wouldn't count out another game starring Master Chief, considering Halo 3's ending is a cliffhanger. It's just that Master Chief is a faceless, stock hero who has no real existence outside of "war with the covenant " or "battle on a ringworld". GRAND THEFT AUTO however might be able toleave a decent legacy since it is a timeless game that may be set in any period, location or mimicry of any city of the entire world.

As technology gets better, games get better and more widely acknowledged. Halo would have been impossible without the technology of XBOX and XboxLive. Kids being born now will be the gamers of tommorrow and they will benefit from superior technology in their games (or whatever they are doing) in ways we cannot imagine now. I doubt people will be talking about Halo in 10 years.

If you even mention HAlo to a kid born after 2015 - they'll think your senile.

"you mean to tell me your games made you use a controller and headset? Why didn't you have a microchip like I do implanted in your brain?"

Really the series is starting to get extremly old (In my opinion, god you fans can get touchy) theres not much more they can add at this point. I sincerely doubt anyone will shell out $60 for the same game over and over again no matter how much they polish off the graphics.

If a good halo movie is made i think it could rival that of star wars for sure. Halo has a small audience compared, yet it has gotten huge attention, if it was turned into a movie it could expand it's audience. The elites, grunts, brutes, master chief -cortona and the Sargent are just such rich and memorable characters that if it was translated into a movie i think it could top star wars- Now before you star wars fans go all crazy on me, star wars is old now, its recent movies were sub par, it does not have the hype to it any more, not that it is not loved by many still- i am fighting for the right words here, hmm it just does not have the general appeal it once had, i guess partly because of that gungun thing and the boring acting in the recent films

-it is only natural that something will take its place over time and all i am saying is halo could have a shot if done right

Is it the greatest legacy in video games? No. Right now, the way I see it, it's Pac Man, then Mario, then Master Chief.

That is the stupidiest thing i have ever herd!!!! Mario, Zelda, metroid having abetter story than halo???? those games dont have a story!!!! their story has been the same for so many years now they are lame faceless characters. there has never been a beggining or and end in any of those games. "peach got stolen again" "hey gues what i am going to save zelda for the 50th time" -truely timeless characters

- you dont know the story line to halo at all and therefore can not judge that a 4th game would wreak the franchise. Halo has a rich backgroud story that still is not finnished - what happened to the forunners , is the covanent civil war over? etc there has been already 4 books and more coming how many books did mario, zelda, metroid come out with with there rich story???!!!!!! you shot your self in the foot for saying what you did -those are the most generic characters of all time and you use them as a example of how master chief is generic???

It did nothing innovative or special for video gaming. Maybe record-wise or money-wise it will be remembered. But not for something that actually helped gaming develop as a whole. Halo fanboys will spend all the money they have on this franchise, watch another trilogy come out.

i do not think halo has lefty a legacy or will ever eave a legacy. halo is a fun game i play it all the time but there is nothing new or innovating about the series. halo is most definatly not this generations star wars who ever said that needs to do some research becuasae that statement is the biggest b.s. i've personally ever heard. halo is a great game and oine of my favorites but it will most likely not leave a legacy other than sales

wow so your saying it did nothing for games wow your wrong halo created one of the best FPS formulas, it basically pioneered recharging sheilds which is now like an FPS standard and showed how online for a console should be done theres more but i dont feel like typing a wall of text.

my point halo did do things for the gaming world im not saying it created its own game type like well say GTA but it did things

I have to disagree. Look at all the hype that has surrounded Halo since its debut. Look at the lines you have to stand in. Look at the insane $$$170million it sold in one day. And for me and many others, look at the story. I think Halo3 was done beautifully and with a great ending to a great series...

Is Halo my favorite game?....No, but its a game I have waited in line for a couple times now...."tips hat"...Good day Halo....good day...........

Review rave about HALO 3's AI.

The A.I. of Halo 3 was no better than any of the other 3 games and in no way compared to the intelligence of the enemies in Half Life. What Halo 3 does have however is enemies who are programmed to be GRENADE HAPPY and therefore they through grenades or energy-drain bombs at you which cause you to get killed quickly, thus giving them the appearance of intelligence.

It is not intelligent for the AI to throw down a Bubble shield and then just wait inside while you rush up into the shield zone and kill it.

If the enemies were really intelligent, they would all attack you simultaneously from cover using guerrila tactics or sniping.

Reviews rave about HALO 3's Graphics and Sound.

The Graphics are the best I've ever seen on a Console but the Sound FX sucked. Firing a gun was "muted" and left no aural impact. Couldn't even turn the damn FX up so I could hear them better through my 5.1.

Reviewers rave about Halo 3's Multiplay.

I got the game for the Singleplayer Story. I never liked Halo's Multiplay because it assumes you want to always play as a team or cooperate. I perfer my games tobe deathmatch style where I single handledly beat people towards a frag limit: i.e. QUAKE.

Halo 3 adds nothing new to the series besides high definition graphics and equiptment usemostly targeted towards its multiplayer mode. HALO 2 added the settings and story elements that HAlo 3 simply continued.

HALO was a much more focused game in all aspects but it was an unoriginal concept based off the books STARSHIP TROOPERS and RINGWORLD.

If only Halo players KNEW HOW TO READ NOVELS - they would understand that.

the future of Halo's legacy lies in its BOX OFFICE IMPACT.

Peter Jackson had best make a 3 hour, 3 part trilogy with the best visual effects known to mankind.

MARIO and ZELDA are the true Legacy's as well as the TOP 2 selling Franchises in Video Gaming history.

Pacman...What was that about anyway?

bigtruckseries

This does not make a legacy that is comparable to that of halo's why because those games have been around for much longer and is mainly catered to children and still is therefore will always continue to have a legacy and impact on are culture because every one will know those characters - maybe i misunderstood you in that aspect but many have been comparing it to star wars which you must admit as a much different sort of legacy then that of Mario, the stereotype Italian plummer some Japanese guy made up while on mushrooms does not compare to that of the icons in star wars - Halo i think could have a shot at being the next star wars for this generation "if it was turned into a good movie" i do not think halo will have that sort of legacy if it were to remain a video game for its entire existence, let me make that clear!. To be honest i don't think halo revolutionized the fps genera all that much either but to say that halo did not have a impact is foolish!!!!!! the no health bar is becoming a standard, vehicles are now common in an fps and it basically set the bar for what a good fps was for the last couple years- it created the xbox brand. I think of halo as an icon because when some one says alien i think of the image of those elites to be honest, those grunts, jackals, prophets are just so cool, heck master chief is like a good Darth Vader - he did not say allot either yet he is an icon. Master chief does not say much or show his face because you are playing as him and it would hurt the immersion with the character, its more about the story around master chief and his actions than master chief himself.

- tell me when was the last time you saw 200 people waiting in the cold at midnight so they could play a mario game!!!! its not the same in any way shape or form there are many more reasons why but i am not going to list them all, no one cares about Mario's next adventure not even you^ well at least not at the same level has halo fans - and for all the na sayers halo would have to have been an icon for it to capture so many peoples imagination, to have gain the level of success it as gotten. -hey i did not like harry-potter but i admit it must have been good in-someway, even if i dont understand it, to get the success and attention it has gotten

To be honest halo1 was the only halo game to really impressed me and i still play it to this day the rest were squeals that stuck with the formula of halo that every one wanted!!! so they will never feel as fresh as the first o and i think starship troopers and alien truly inspired halo the elites look similar to that in alien and the flood are basically replicas of what alien was all about starship trooper gave the ring world and those big bugs remind me of the covenant wraiths lol

that does not make it any less great to me though why !!! ??? you might ask because even star wars had its influences from fantasy and si-fi things before it came out, it was just the first to really combined the two : )

I think it has. But unless they go the prequel root, they can't really do anything. They could start with a totally different story, bu in the same universe. They might continue with the Halo Wars thing though.

You obviously didn't see the movie after the credits and you most definitly didnt beat it on legendary and sit through the credits...

Even if they did stop the series halo will be known 20 years from now.

Technology has changed considerably since the 80's. Mario, Zelda and Tetris did not have the internet fan bases that HALO did and that is the reason HALO fanbases have been so strong over the years since Halo was playable online.

Halo is also the first killer app on the XBOX similar to the way 007 Goldeneye helped push N64 consoles. BRINING FIRST PERSON SHOOTER GAMEPLAY TO A BROAD AUDIENCE was the key.

If those same HALO players who bought there $179 XBOX or their $400 XBOX360 were forced to buy a $1500 PC to play a First Person Shooter, I guarrantee, HAlo's fanbase would be no bigger than Half Life's, Quake's or Doom's.

Halo is all about presentation. It does nothing in the way of rejuvenating the gameplay style and does nothing in the way of making FPS different. In fact, it really had less innovation than DUKE NUKEM 3D and the vehicular combat component had already been done in TRIBES.

People are so hooked on Halo because their lives themselves are dull and boring. They need escape to a fantasy world.

20 years from now?

LOL - in the 20 years I have been playing video games, The only game I can really look back and remember were NES games like Contra, Siecross and Section Z as well as Mario Bros, and TMNT.

The kids of today have never played those games and probably never will. That is why WII's virtual console and Xbox Live Arcade are so important.

Technology will advance so far in 20 years, HALO will be look upon as "lacking".

People are so hooked on Halo because their lives themselves are dull and boring. They need escape to a fantasy world.

ok for one any one could make that argument about any video game, second weren't you the one who said that you have been playing for video games for 20 years? and no i am not going to sink so low and say any thing : ) lol but to think that every one who plays halo is an idiot is foolish- Halo made the top of charts in japan even!!! passing a cultural barrierprove that it does appeal to the masses -legacy right there :P fps top of charts in japan from an american company. YES i agree that halo wont have a lasting legacy unless it makes a movie so it can gain a much wider audience. All i am saying is that halo is a great property. - it got 9.5 from gamespot many people like it, end of story you can say all you want but your opinions are not fact neither are mine : ) why must an argument about halo always turn out to be wether it is any good or not? - any way i agree with StupidHenchmar lets just end this post,

[QUOTE="Gen007"]

[QUOTE="Hive_Node"]It did nothing innovative or special for video gaming. Maybe record-wise or money-wise it will be remembered. But not for something that actually helped gaming develop as a whole. Halo fanboys will spend all the money they have on this franchise, watch another trilogy come out.MarineXXII

wow so your saying it did nothing for games wow your wrong halo created one of the best FPS formulas, it basically pioneered recharging sheilds which is now like an FPS standard and showed how online for a console should be done theres more but i dont feel like typing a wall of text.

my point halo did do things for the gaming world im not saying it created its own game type like well say GTA but it did things

very true, not only that, but it did make vehicles in games very popular

Only thing I can give you is recharging shields/health, sorry.
