We all know that they can't be played over or downloaded from xbox live anymore and only a handful of them can be supported on the 360. But I've just noticed something while looking at the BC list. The list was last updated in 2007! Over two years ago! Obviously Microsoft doesn't care about us being able to play the cIassic xbox games.

Are you as frustrated and annoyed as I am? I've been waiting to play some of these games for years and now it seems I never will get to. What are your thoughts on this?

It seems that what mircosoft did. They're done with Original Xbox, mainly cause its last gen, why would they focus on something last gen? I do wish though that they could at least keep Halo 2 servers up and alive. Enough people would contribute to it online, like myself.

Yes, but only a small number of games are supported by the 360.

To my knowledge 90%+ are supported with backwards compatibility patches.

your knowledge is wrong. Its more like 30% of the entire original Xbox library is supported on the 360... and downloading the patches doesnt make the games work

yeh it can be confusing.. when I insert an original xbox disk into my 360; it says upload the update to play this game.. but it still never playes the damn disc..

lol..

I just use the original XBOX to play them..

Someone above mentioned that the original XBOX's are cheap.. This is true if your buying second hand consoles, but brand new are extremely expensive now.

Original Xbox is $50 at Gamestop and Amazon...they look like they're going for a good bit cheaper on ebay though.

Yeah it frustrates me too I couldn't play Mafia after I bought it. RDR (first game) has a game breaking glitch in it when played on a 360, etc M$ really dropped original titles.

Bolded/italicized the appropriate word in that statement. Yeah.. YOU didn't buy YOUR 360 to play Xbox games. That doesn't meanone else wants to play an old game. Some games are classics. Others I would like to play because I didn't get a chance to when they were new. I mentioned Mafia in my first post. Mafia II comes out at the end of August. I simply wanted to enjoy the first game before playing the sequel. Is that such a bad thing? I don't care if YOU don't want to play older games some of us actually do.

Why would I want to spend extra money to buy a clunky old Xbox for 1 game when the 360 should be able to play original Xbox games? Your logic makes no sense..

Have you actually tried playing the game in your 360? Not all BC games are on the infamous "list".

You can still download original xbox games from xbox live and most xbox games are compatible with the 360, not just a handful. They announced that they were no longer updating backward compatibility list a LONG time ago. Obviously they don't care, the original xbox is dead, multiplayer server have been taken down. The only original xbox game that recieved any notable amount of play from community was Halo 2. Backwards compatibility at this point is not really a selling point any more. The 360's library completely trounces the original's. If you really want to play original xbox games so badly just get an original xbox. You can probably find one now for the price of a movie.

Your logic makes no sense. Why should the 360 play that one game? Because you want it to? Microsoft never said they'd have full backwards compatibility and it's not something you can single Microsoft out on since full backwards compatibility is a rare feature for home consoles. The Wii and PS2 are like the only consoles out there that are fully compatible with their predecessor'slibraries.

At least Microsoft got pretty much all their best selling games.

Because that is the machine designated to play original xbox games, ya know, cause its an original xbox. Not to mention the library of great cheap games for it that makes that "clunky" old box worth the purchase. Expand your mind past Mafia.

I was just playing Crash Nitro Kart on my 360 and realizing what horrible emulation it is myself. They should really touch up whats already there, not add more. But alas Microsoft is finished with that. At least it plays some of the games. I have two Xbox originals so its not a problem, I just hate pulling it out to play a game, not only that I enjoy the upscale on some games with the emulation.

Just bought a 360 slim(never owned a 360) as was wondering if the original Halo 1&2 discs would work for offline play(I know the servers are down for online)? I was thinking of buying the games on Amazon and find out what the hype was about them.

Thanks, I plan to play those games with my g/f. Though when I tried out Halo 3 last year she didn't really like the graphics in the game. I'm using component cable now so I'm sure it will look better than the composite cable I used last year when I tried out an arcade model. I do have a smaller 1080P LVD TV 40 inch in my bedroom I could hook up my 360 slim to but I already have a PS3 phat hooked up to that one.The TV in my living room is 55" so better for split screen even though it is older and doesn't do 720P or 1080P(does only 1080i or 480P).

Either buy a used xbox 1 and more than just the one game you want (you'll probably find more, at least I did. it's not like it doesn't have any good games) or don't buy it and you can only hope that MS will make it BC (which is unlikely). I see no other option. Maybe you know someone who will give you a special discount for his/her xbox, but you would have tried that already I guess.

all I have to say is thank god Panzer Dragoon Orta was among some of the last batch of games to get BC, like my favorite Xbox original... surprised though that they haven't released this on the Originals downloadable market, it was responsible for single handedly doubling ownership of the original Xbox in Japan, it should get a modern day touch-up for that reason alone

It seems that Microsoft has given up the ghost on the Original Xbox games Completely. Backward Compatibility has gone out of fashion......

I guessing some people are wishing that they held on to their old Xbox? Just go buy one from EB games which are currently $35.00.

Didn't even consider getting rid of mine or my game collection when I decided to go 360. My original X and games are in a plastic storage tub in the attic just waiting to come back down and be played again.

Personally, I believe they should release the first 2 Halo's on the arcade and let them have multiplayer support. Anyone else agree?

Your logic makes no sense. You want to play this game but you aren't willing to buy the console to play it on. You're right, all Xbox games should be BC, but the fact is they aren't. Either buy an Xbox or PS2 or get the PC version. They're the only choices you have. Moaning about it will get you nowhere.
