Too many times than I would like to remember, had to send my 360s in a few times for repairs. Eventually I got the new Xbox 360 slim, but I traded that in now for the next generation.
I got it once then it completely put me off from xbox.
got a ps3 fat and pc for the rest of the generation 2007+
now I have a ps4, xone, wiiu, and pc. Very happy that there is no hardware failures that affect so many people.
It only happen to me once but before I ended up buying another Xbox 360, I did my research to see what was happening around the world with these RROD and it turns out that it was the chip overheating issues, I didn't have a warranty at the time but MS was offering to replace the console for free which I didn't have to pay a dime to ship it and 2 weeks, I got a new Xbox 360. That was my one time RROD and when MS announce the Xbox 360 slim, I got the Halo Reach Xbox 360 slim and from there, my slim is still running wild.
[For some reason, I never gotten that YLOD from my PS3 launch console]
Putting one of the early ones in a cabinet would cause it to overheat. Its' definitely not an issue with the XB1 as it runs almost silent and cool with all the air space.
I had to put up with it a few times when I bought the early model 360... and was the reason I ended up switching to PS3.
I had one ring of death on a pre owned 360 I bought, was still under warranty so I got a new one :D
However I had 3 Ps3 consoles fail on me, I had a yellow light of death, the next model I got from Sony was the disc tray not reading disks, then a third one they sent me stopped powering on.
Finally the 4th console they sent me still works now.
I found both Sony and Microsoft provided good service and replaced the faulty consoles as quickly as you could expect.
Yes only on my first Xbox 360. A launch edition "Core" system. Way back in 2005. Given that this was one of the first issues of Xbox 360 it died on me. RRoD but the other Xbox 360's did just fine.
Glad that Xbox one doesn't have this problem
I never got the complete ring, but 3 lights (E74, if I recall correctly). But it happened just once, then it worked fine until it stopped reading discs.. so I replaced the lens system and managed to fixed it properly. It kept working for 6 months. I was growig sick of the xbox360 anyway, so I switched to PS3 and lived happily ever after

Oh wow such bad luck dude. If both Sony and Microsoft failed on me I'd switch over to Nintendo lol

Yeah it all happened in about 6 months lol, but MS and Sony were great and kept replacing consoles or repairing. Microsoft gave me 3 months Xbox Live, and Sony on the final fix upgraded my Ps3 to the slim model.
I accept I was unlucky and it actually put my opinion of both Sony and MS higher because there service was fantastic.
@rrjim1:
my friend had a Ps3 he stabbed it with a knife because it broke then he got a Xbox 360, now he has a Xbox One
Yeah, 2x of my 360's got the RRoD. I've been using a 360 with a Jasper chipset for several years without incident, probably because I added an after market cooler to it. The DVD drive in it did scratch up about 10 game discs before it crapped out last year, though. I'm hoping that the new drive that I buy will be problem free...
I got my Elite 360 in 2007 and it still works as I can't yet afford to upgrade to Xbox One. The only problem I have ever had with it is the one red light E-74 issue back in 2009. As everyone has said the repair process was very easy and it didn't take long for it to get fixed and sent back to me.
I had it 4 times my first Xbox disc drive burned out in six months.
My second one gave me the red ring of death as soon as I put saints row in playing that for a few
The second one gave me red ring while playing WWE 2008
Got that repair
While that was getting shipped I bought another Xbox 360
And since then both have bricked one disc drive went out on the older one that was repaired the one I bought red ringed so I bought one last fat model in the Xmas of 2009 which still works but I have since then bought a slim s console which wifi adapter blew out forcing me to buy an e console in 2013 and in 2014 I bought the 500 gig blue Xbox so I have four Xbox 360s of course 1 only works online when connected to router or bridged w PC
@goldenagegaming: haha RROD for only 10 minutes?? That makes me laugh!! I have had 8 Xbox 360's and 6 of them Red Ringed. I enjoyed the console, but it is the ONLY console that I have ever had problems with. I still have my original Atari 2600, Pong, Dreamcast, N64, 3DO, NES, SNES... shoot ALL my systems still work.
@filmfreak1138:
Wow Bad luck with Xbox and yeah my other consoles work fine my PlayStation 1, N64 and Original Xbox that's all I have. I got the red ring again for the third time still not a problem, but I think soon it will be like that for good I hope not I have only had it for about 6 months
