I remember when it was cool to have three friends over and enjoy some good, wholesome fragging on 007 Goldeneye and Halo CE.  Now, whenever i want to play a friend, i just call him up and say "hey, lets get on live".  Now i enjoy the convenience and all, but does anyone else miss the social aspect of gaming?  just want to hear some thoughts.

A good portion of games allow for split screen gaming so you can still just as easily phone them up and have them come over and play.  It is still pretty social if you use the headset and the nice thing is you ge more viewing space on your tv because of live.  Split screen it gets divided up...nice to enjoy lots of viewing space and your friends can't cheat by looking at your grid on the tv lol

im not saying that i cant do split screen anymore, im just saying that with live i have no reason to.  i still enjoy split screen when i have friends over, but the sense that split screen is the best is gone because i can just play live

I'd say that and the sheer graphical intensity of some games (ala gears) limit the amount of individual players a single console can process while playing- some games have awesome splitscreen though, like pdz

o man, system link is always the best---if you have enough people to play with that is....that way you're playing with your friends but not screensurfing!!!

i agree that it was fun to sit down with 2 or 3 friends and play a game but i wouldn't say that xbox live is a bad thing.

I like playing live wit split-screen so im having the best of both worlds. Im a greedy person myself so i dont like sharing a screen with someone. Its annoying honestly.

You just need a big TV for it. My HDTV is only 30" and that's already pushing it.

I miss the days of playing Halo: CE split screen over Gamespy Tunnel. My buddies would come over and we'd get into cursing matches with the other players in the chat window. LOL

Yeah, I loved having friends over and playing gears in split screen or halo, but now most games don't let you play split-screen. It is not fair to people who don't have xboxlive. Developers need to get it back soon or they will lose some of there market.

Ghost Recon games still have spilt screen, but for Ghost Recon AW 2 4 player split screen is horrible.  2 screen max no matter what size HDTV.  Otherwise its too laggy or you can't see anything.

good post. I have LIVE but the days of having freinds over in the same living room playing system link HALO were awesome times. i had 4 tvs hooked up. now that you brought it up i miss those times. another plus was no laaag or host advantage.
