Yes... This is a little off topic, but when I play CSS instead of CS 1.6 I lose skill temporarily until I get used to things again...

^ Here's a guy who only plays one game non-stop. Either that, or he does what isn't physically possible.

LOL... this happened to me the other day. Played CoD4 for the first time in months and got my tail handed to me. It felt like a new game, trying to remember how to run, instead I kept stooping down and getting killed.

When I play Gears CoD4 and Halo near each other they're all slightly different and similar at the same time, so I'm bad at each one when I play them. Then I play them for a while and get used to it and break even in my k/d spread :P

It happens to everyone, you can't be good at every game all the time. Your skill never goes away, it just slightly goes down a little and has to be worked on to get back or even better than before. I played a match of Call of Duty 4 the other day in FFA and didn't do too good, when I used to play all the time I would win the majority of the games or place within the top three spots.

Yes and no - it depends on the game and i don't think its that i've lost skill as such...just that my fingers need to re adjust to the controls of that game. But then maybe that is one and the same?

Yeah, you somehow get used to the game you played that you might make a few mistakes once you play again.

I hadn't played NG2 since July (360 at home, me being away and all), and tried to pick it up a few days ago.

Before, I was working my way through the middle of Master Ninja. I tried to load my latest save point, and got absolutely wiped... it was horrific. I fear that I do not have the courage to reattain the mad skillz that are clearly perishable...

It will take a round or two playing online to get familiar with the controls and map layouts again, but I'm usually quick to get back to the level I was at before. It helps if you have been playing something similar, like another FPS, whereas going from a turn based JRPG to FPS or racing game that is totally different. The part I hate about some games like Gears is the lack of jump - I get so used to having it I wonder why a well trained and well armed soldier is unable to lift both feet off the ground at the same time :?

Same thing happens when switching TVs. I switched from a standerd 420p tv to a 1080p widescreen for COD:WaW and i'm all screwed up now.

Racing games are difficult to switch over to one another because all the car specs and movement/sensativity are different in each racing game

Shooting games it all depends on the game's mechanics

RTS it's only if you forget a certain strategy you get screwed

that's from my own personal experience

It happens to me. It's not so much a loss of skill, it's jsut that I forget it. It's mostly the different control schemes. I'll master one, and then move on to another. When I go back to it, I have to learn it again, but once I have it down, the skill is unleashed, and I'm back on top!
