I don't know if this is in the right spot, or if I'm even creating a thread here, but oh well. I got some Turtle Beaches the other day (XL1) and brought them home, not knowing they required an adapter or AV components to send the sound from your TV to the headset. So, I went back to the store, got the components, and tried to plug them in. I was unable to, as the AV components have a little lip on the bottom that doesn't allow the HDMI to be plugged in at the same time. I took the HDMI out, inserted the AV components, went to "Video 1" and it worked... but the picture quality was horrible, so I took the AV out of the Xbox and TV, plugged the HDMI into the Xbox and TV, and went to "HDMI 1". It then said "Not supported". I know I have the cord plugged in correctly, and I know it's in the right slot on the TV because there's only one HDMI slot that fits the cord, and that's "HDMI 1". So, I put the AV cables back in, and attempted to put the resolution back to 1080p. I couldn't, however, because when I got to "Display", the "HD TV Settings" option was grayed out, so I couldn't fix the resolution. I did notice, however, that when I plug the HDMI cord into the Xbox/TV, the Xbox still responds to the controller; i.e. I can turn the console off remotely. So, I figure, if the HDMI cord is inserted, then the Xbox will recognize my TV as HD again. If I could somehow navigate my way through the Xbox settings blindly, I could set the optimal resolution back to 1080p and everything would be fixed, because I've determined that it is in fact the Xbox or TV that is messing up, not the cord itself. If it were the cord, then the TV wouldn't be getting the signal that it can't support. So, does anyone think/know this will work? If not, what are some other solutions?
Don't you have the component cables? You should able to use those and get 720p, which depending on your TV is still pretty decent resolution for games. I can't say with absolute certainty what exactly will work because I've never had any Turtle Beach equipment.
Just to help you out here. Most of the mid series TB headsets need the audio dongle to work correctly. It's the attachment that plugs into the old AV connector just above the HDMI connector (on the S model systems). All that is needed for is to use the white / red stereo cables to pull the audio from the system to headphones. As for the resolution thing, I haven't used component cables in forever and I'm not sure why youre system is having an issue with going back n forth between the two. try looking online to see if there is a way to force it to redetect the video cable selection and see if it starts working like normal. You don't need to use component cables to get those headphones to work, all that is needed is the dongle (it used to be an audio/video component dongle early on). I have the new xp400's and luckily all you need is the optical cable plugged into the back of the system and that's it, no dongle needed (minus the box that plugs into the usb for power or course :).
