Wassup everyone. Im considering picking up a HD DVD player for the 360 and had a few questions for those in the know. Now before some fan boy or pro BluRay or whatever person decides to drop by this thread and ignorantly rant why one is better, that is of no matter to me. So please, dont waste your time. Im pan on buying a PS3 and enjoying BluRay as well. My reason for considering HDDVD player is because there are some movies only available in HD on this format. I was just curious as to how reliable this player is? Also is it as good as far as picture and sound quality as a normal HDDVD player?

Right now I own a tv that only has the ability to do up to 1080i. Please dont try to school me on the different resoloutions as Im aware of them all and what each does. My question is. I plan to buy a newer HD in the near future with 1080p capabilities. Is it worth getting a HDDVD player for a TV that only does 1080I? Thanks in advance to anyone with helpful insight.

ok, i'm not trying to school on resolutions, but there won't be much of a difference between 1080i and 1080p, i have 2 hdtv's and one has the native resolution of 1080i (56 inch)and the other of 1080p(42 inch),and there are no difference between them, the hd dvd plays the same on both tv's and not a single thing has change. i have watched transformers and 300 on both tvs and they look great on them. the only real difference is playing a normal dvd and that's when you might see a change, the upconvertion is not all that great and the dvd in fact looks better on the 1080p than on the 1080i, but if you are playing hd dvd, then there is no change and it won't be a bad purchase to get it for the 1080i because hd dvd already comes fully upscaled and its native resolution is in 1080 so you won't be dissapointed if you buy it for your 1080i hdtv

hope that helps.

Buy it, Hd has much more to offer right now. The quality is a bit better than blue ray, that could change in the future. I own both formats. I have around 30 hd-dvd's and 3 blue ray.

Unless your a very uptight A/V Nerd who absolutely must have the latest greatest in terms of technology as in HDMI 1.1, the HD-DVD addon for the 360 will be fine. It doesn't support HDMI 1.1, or more appropriately the 360 doesn't, but other than that the drive is exceptionally solid and no matter the movie it will be equal with a standalone player. I'm not 100% sure but I believe some of the networking features of HD-DVD are nonexistent but this is almost a moot point since one of said features is to be able to converse with others while watching the movie, since the 360 has this functionality built in it isn't a big loss if the drive doesn't support the HD-DVD networking features.

Sorry if this is a bit longwinded. The HD-DVD drive is very solid and for those of us like myself who love HD Formats but don't want to limit ourselves to just Blu-ray, the price is very sweet, especially when coupled with the 5 free movies.

Well, buying HDDVD just because it has some movies BD doesn't is kinda silly as when all the studios move over the BD once their exclusive deals with the various p;laces are done they'll re-release them. Save your cash for other things. However if you HAVE to buy HDDVD at least get a legit standalone player.
