Just wondering, with HD-DVD reeling, Microsoft have decided to drop the price on the HD-DVD add-on for the 360. I think now it's a really good price especially with the free dvds you get.
Would this make anyone else out there consider getting one?

Major Nelsons post about it.
5 DVDs offer.

Nope because all of the good movies are coming out on Blu-Ray... that is why I bought a PS3...

The only people releasing on HD-DVD now are FOX and they haven't had any good movies recently...

Fox is Blu Ray. The only studios that HD DVD has are Universal, Paramount and Warner Brothers (until May I believe).

I was tempted by a similar offer in the run-up to Christmas, but in the UK it was going for £115 ($230) compared to your news that it is now on offer for half that at $130.

I don't really need an HD player yet, and am happy to wait for this format war to end and the prices to drop.

I can't wait for the HD DVDs to have a firesale! :) I'll be scooping up a bunch of movies cheap then. :) Until blu ray movies start showing a slow down in sales, I can't see HD DVDs winning this format war.

I think I'll stick with my DVD upconverter for quite some time. Don't get me wrong, I love movies, but I just don't see any sense in paying more money for another piece of equipment, and then paying $25-30 per movie.

The original price drop was rumored to be $149.99 but turned out to be $179.99 before the holiday season. I was waiting for the price to drop to drop lower before considering it so $129.99 is not a bad deal. It's not a completely dead format yet so I won't mind dropping that much for the HD DVD drive.

yeah I've had the hd dvd player for well over a year now, I also have a PS3. I have only 5 hd dvd movies, but well over 20 blu ray movies. Only because hd dvds tend to cost $30 to $35 when blu rays are $24 to $30. I would own alot more hd dvds if the prices on the movies were the same as blu ray. the whole combo format didn't help hd dvd, If it buy an hd dvd I want to watch it in HD not sd dvd. It drove cost up and gave extras that no one really wanted. I will stock up on a lot of movies when they go on sell, I will miss you hd dvd.

they should've dropped the price 6 months ago, imo, maybe it would've made a difference.

it seems strange to me how theres always the same trend with stuff like this, alot of people agree that LPs have a better overall quality then CDs but CDs hold more, same was said with Betamax, better picture but vhs holds more, VCDs and Laser Discs didnt really go anywhere, DVDs became the overall standard, HD-DVD was very well planned out, had a good compression codec and standards were set before they ever launched, most early bluray discs still use mpeg2 which is the same as DVD, and while studios are starting to use the same VC1 codec HD-DVD has been using, alot of the transfers suffer from noise, blocking, and other such effects, they have been scrambling to add more features which are making g1 and g2 bluray players obsolete, but they hold alot more then a HD-DVD, I was really hoping they would find some middle ground instead of choosing one over the other, both have their distinct advantages, and I know in a year or two most of the problems bluray has will be solved but i will miss HD-DVD, it was just so comeplete when you think of all the features they have and realise they were there from the beginning and not add-ons requiring a new bluray player, the fact that the newest bluray profile will only run on ps3 after a FW update is a bit unsettling. i didnt mean to bash bluray, I just wanted to vent a bit, sorry if this annoys anyone

I also tend to buy bluray for my PS3 over hd, but I bought my HDDVD player at Best Buy in August, they had a deal that they tried not to honor but after arguing I paid 190 after tax for the HD player and got Heroes season one on HD for free, which was part of the deal but on another page of the ad, they had buy any hd player and get two free hd movies in store instantly, which is the part I had to argue about because they said its not considered one of their HD players but a Xbox 360 accessory, but another employee was on my side so I also got Dead Silence and Shooter on /hd for free plua King kong came with it, then five free by mail which I got, Troy, Itallion Job, Frighteners, Pitch Black, and Swordfish, and last week I got Transformers and Smokin Aces for buy one get one free.
