If your TV supports HDMI - then that is the absolute best way to achieve HD.
Second would be component cables and thirdly would be VGA.
A DVI cable would do it too just as well as HDMI - but that is not a standard method and you'd have to reroute your sound.
It sounds like from your question that you have HDMI - and that's the absolute best so use that.
if i use the hdmi cable, will i still need the av input cables? If your TV supports HDMI - then that is the absolute best way to achieve HD.

no you dont need themjust look under your current AV input on your 360...If you have a thin input that looks similar to a usb port, then that is your hdmi.
Go to the dollar store and pick up a hdmi cable for $10
That one cable is all you need.
If you have an older surround sound system, just connect that to the audio out on your tv. That way you can choose to use your tv's sound or the surround sound, and it won'tbe affected by using an hdmi cable
all this, and component cables will do just fine for hdmi
