I recently bought a new capture card, hoping to use my new card's HDMI input and output to record in a higher quality than my current component capture card, as well as to resolve some lighting issues related to split signals. When I set up my new card (BM Intensity Extreme) with my Xbox 360, the footage did not show up on my computer screen, and the signal did not go back to the television from the output. Infuriated that I had recieved a defective unite, I boxed the device up and shipped it back to the the seller that very day. I'm about to buy another, different HDMI-ready capture card. However, it occured to me that the Xbox 360 might have HDCP protection, like the PS3. I really should have checked the component recording to make sure the unit was totally broken. My question to you is, are the 360's signals HDCP protected? I have the original arcade edition, if that makes any difference.

It actually depends on which version of the xbox 360 you have. i personally have been able to record from my xbox 360 with the haupauge hdpvr2 gaming edition through hdmi but i think my xbox is an older model that released before they switched to encrypting hdmi signal. most sites out there still say that you can still record though so im not entirely sure. maybe the xbox just selectively encrypts things. like when you playing a game the encryption is turned off but when you are watching something through netflix for example, encryption is turned on so you cant record their programming. don't know for sure, all i know is to this day (11/16/12) i have been able to record gameplay in 1080p through hdmi for the xbox 360
