I used to play my 360 in standard definition. I never cared that much about graphics. My friend, totally convinced that HD is a necessity for the 360, got me to get an HDTV. My brother was home for crhsitmas and told me that i should get an HDMI cable for my 360 as well, and that it will make my picture even better.

Is this true? does the HDMI cable make a noticeable difference? Is it worth it?

Also, whats the deal with the cable that came with the 360 having the toggle switch for SD and HD? what does that actually do?

Thanks guys!

well to put it simple if you have a big tv(50in) and up running in 1080p then yeah. personally for smaller tvs like the 30in ones i dont notice a real difference but yeah if your running in 1080p on a big tv you might wanna go the route even if you dont though your still getting a great picture.

1080p doesnt really make much difference on the xbox because its only really upscalling btw, but on any hdtv I'd say HDMI makes a decent difference, its like the difference between VGA and DVI, you get a slightly sharper picture and in well designed games better colour definition owing to the fact that hdmi doesnt convert from digital to analauge and back again like a component would do its just digital all the way

though you will find yourself only really noticing on the best designed games in my opinion

plus it free's up your component and gives access to digital audio so thats a good as well :)

I have a 40 inch 1080p 20 000:1 contrast ratio and I dont notice that much of a difference between the two. But the poster above it right. It opens oppurtunities if you have a nice sound system. How big is your tv?

26 inches i think? something like that. not huge, but i usually sit on my bed to play and the tv is on the desk next to it. So its like, 3-4 feet from me. Being that close probably lets me see more unclearness :P i dunno

hmm, i never tried NOT using HD with my 360. i know on my ps3 however there is a difference and it makes sense there would be a difference.

whether you use composite or hdmi, hd is noticeable over sd.

I am running on a 32" Samsung LCD at 720p/1080i. The difference between component and HDMI was very small.

this really depends on whether or not your tv does 1080p or not

If your TV only does 720p, using a HDMI cable will not make a lick of difference

Also, if you are going to buy a HDMI cable, be aware that many stores try to charge $60 or more....even $120 ! But you can buy a 6 foot HDMI cable at a computer store for $10 and it's exactly the same.

To me, the difference is night and day. Definitely give it a shot.
