I will be getting an xbox 360 pro for my 720p tv but im a little confused. I see that both the pro and elite system have the same looking HDMI inputs but i heard the xbox elite is special because of its HDMI 1.2 interface but dont all xbox 360s have the same thing? So in order to use HDMI w/ basic xbox 360 i need to just get a HDMI cable correct? I will be getting a 1080p tv eventually and i dont want to be stuck with a non hdmi 360. Lastly, if i use HDMI for a 720p would it look better than a HD component connection?

I looked up some stuff on the net about the different versions of HDMI. First off, I couldn't find anything about an Xbox360 Pro w/ HDMI having an older version than the Elite, which is 1.2. While the lack of evidence is not evidence in and of itself, I would ASSUME that if the Elite has 1.2 then the Pro would as well. After all why would Xbox deliberately make things difficult for themselves by making Pros with an already old version of HDMI? I would imagine it would be more cost-effective to just use one kind of HDMI hardware.

Ok so your next question is if any HDMI cable with do ... Yes it should. It seems you can't even find 1.1 cables anymore. You can still purchase 1.2 cables and they are cheaper than the 1.3 cables(the latest version of HDMI). If you can find a 1.2 cable and you just us it for your Xbox that will be fine.

Lastly you want to know if on your 720 TV the HDMI will look better than HD component. I used the component for a while (going through my receiver)and just recently started using HDMI plugged directly into my 1080P. This in theory should have been going from the worst Hi-Def way to connect to the best and honestly there was only the smallest of improvements in the picture quality.

Hope that helps.

In addition to what my_mortal has previously stated, I'm pretty sure the Xbox Elite comes with all of the necessary HDMI cables, while the Xbox 360 Pro doesn't.

You are confusing the HDMI standards; i.e., 1.1, 1.2, 1.3x, and these have little to do with the cable itself. HDMI LLC specifies either standard speed or high speed cables. Standard speed supports up to 1080i while high speed supports up to 1080p.

No HDMI cable with the 60GB Pro.

Pretty much everything the first guy said, my_mortal. None of the 360 packages come with an HDMI cable, except maybe the Elite but I don't think so. All the 360's currently sold will accept HDMI cables but just are not sold with a HDMI cable included. HDMI cables will make a bit of difference but not a tremendous difference of course. The picture will be sharper and colors will be more vibrant.

I promise that the Elite Bundle comes with the HDMI Cables. I just checked on Xbox.com and they have a list of all the features and accessories that come with the arcade, pro and Elite. FYI, I also just purchased an Elite RE5 Bundle and I got my HDMI cable with it.
