HDMI is the best quality you're going to get with the current xbox 360. Of course you'll need an HDTV in order to use it. The component HD AV cable gives a very good quality picture for HDTV's as well. The difference between the two is very minimal. However if you're talking about the difference between standard and HD then there is a very obvious and noticable difference with the HD being of course better. The red/white/blue S-video AV cable doesn't output an HD signal like the other two. I'm pretty sure that all 360s come with the component HD AV cables which has a total of 6 cables. So to to answer your question, yes the cables that come with your 360 are just as good as the hdmi, unless you have an enormous tv to actually notice the difference.

I have a 40" sony bravia, and am about to use the AV cables instead of my HDMI.

I am not amazing knowledgable on this but HDMI is basically an HDvideo and audio cable all in one. In other words you wont need to use red/green/blue/ and audio red/white with is, just the hdmi cable. Also, people say the HDMI has a slightly better picture. My 360 doesn't have the hdmi output, but other stuff I have does, and really, I never noticed a difference. I just use it for the convenience.

if I am understanding correctly, hdmi gives you the true 1080p if your tv supports it. if not then please correct.

Yes they are-I've tried both cables on my 360 connection to my Sony bravia LCD and there's no visible difference so i stuck with component cable that came with my 360,as my Sony LCD has only one HDMI input and im using that for my Blu ray console.

And you can still run at 1080 using the component cable.

Yeah its just the video and audio signal through one cable and it can output full HD better than the component but as the guy i have quoted said you need a huge tv to notice any difference.

red/white/blue are componet cables white are 480p. the green, white and something are 720p, and hdmi is 1080p or 720p i believe. I got to experience PS3 in 1080P but no 360 yet, but 720P is pretty damn nice.
