I appreciate this might come under the umbrella of many other forums suhc as technical discussion as well as this , but I am posting in here, mods please remove if neccessary.

Well I listen to my sound through my CD player (using white+red) leads of component and then I use the visual part with my 32 Inch Samsung HD TV.

I was wondering whether getting a HDMI cable is good enough compared to the component to justify the cost, and also could I use my cd player as sound output somehow?

Thanks.

There's not much of a difference, imo. I too have a 32'' Samsung and use a HDMI cable. Its more convienent plugging it in the back than component cables.

HDMI is better

Here's what you do

HDMI from XBOX to TV

Cables from TV audio OUT to whatever audio you're using IN

HDMI is techncally better, but I don't really notice a difference compared to component.
And, price shouldn't be a huge issue. If you look around, you can get good cables for dirt cheap.
Don't go for Monster, or even the overpriced MS brand.

Going from composite to component, there's a HUGE difference.
Component to HDMI, not a huge jump.

The only true advantage I see for using HDMI on the 360, is the fact that using HDMI allows the 360 to upconvert DVDs to 720p or 1080p. Sadly though I don't have an HDMI ready 360 so I don't even know if its worth it.
