I went out and bought me a brand new 32" Sharp LCD TV this weekend. I have finally upgraded from my 27" CRT and there is QUITE a difference. It feels like i'm playing an Xbox 720! Anyways, while I was hooking the system up to the television I switched the a/v from TV to HDTV. I then proceeded to plug in the component cables...but wait shouldn't I be using HDMI? Well It turns out my Xbox doesn't have an HDMI output because it's an older model.

Now will I have to get a component to HDMI converter? I noticed on ebay they range from $50-$140. Will it even make that big of a difference? My TV is only capable of showing 720p I believe. I noticed the HD wasn't really as clear as it should be when I downloaded an HD trailer off of the marketplace. I couldn't really tell from playing any games, but I know what HD is suppose to look like when it comes to movies or shows. Any words of advice?

To be honest, you're probably not even going to notice a differencebetween component and hdmion a 32" screen, so I'd just stick with the component.

Wrong. There is a HUGE difference between component and HDMI. I just tried this yesterday. With component, you don't even get widescreen, and the picture is fuzzy like an old CRT.

OP, if you have a HD widescreen TV, you have yet to unleash the power of the 360. HDMI to HDMI is the best possible quality--it's like playing the 360 on a widescreen computer monitor. I don't know what you will have to do to or how much you will have to spend to convert the signal, but it might not be worth it considering you can just buy a new Arcade console that has HDMI and the new Jasper chipset for $200 or less. You could sell your old system and some games to help out with your purchase.

I'm using HDMI now, but when I was using component no one could look at it and label it fuzzy. I noticed little difference & he only has a 720p HDTV.

Do not get a converter, they're a waste of money

You're looking for the truest picture and a converter is unable to give the true levels

If this is such a need then go grab a new console and swap out the drives

I didn't read your full post OP, but I would recommend you get the Xbox 360 VGA cable if you have not already considered it. It will give you HDMI like quality with negligible differences. (I have seen both and cant tell a difference what so ever.)

I think its all still a waste of time & money, he just went to High Def & should be more than happy. No reason to freak out over the picture quality when his HDTV will not do 1080p.
