I'm kinda new at this so heres my question...

I recently purchased a 40 inch samsung 1080p tv that can do 120 hz, it looks amazing, particularly when using my ps3 on it. But my xbox looks not so nice. I have one of the old non-hdmi xboxs and am only running composite cables on it. The picture quality, or rather the graphics do not look as impressive as my ps3 which is using a high end hdmi cable.

I've been told that this has to do with the refresh rate running at 120 hz on my ps3 versus a 60hz composite connection on my xbox. Basically I'd just like to take advantage of my hi def gamibg with my xbox so im thinking of upgrading to an elite.

Does this make a diffference with the xbox? Does the xbox have anything to do with 120hz? I'd appreciate any help on the matter, thanks!

well you heard wrong the ps3&xbox360 are both only 60hz.all br movies are filmed at 24fps which means 24hz. 60hz means the tv can do a max 60fps no ps3 or 360 game runs over 60 fps or these magical 120fps.

Doesn't the 360 come with Component cables? I bought a refurb for my nephew and even those came with component cables, and it was a pre-hdmi model. Because composite is the absolute lowest quality you'll get on the 360, especially on a TV like that.

I probably should have worded the question better, I didnt mean to imply that the games are running at 120 but rather the tv is, I already know games run at 60fps. I can see how some people might misread that, my mistake. Aside from the scornful, self-righteous indignant comment do you have an answer to my actual question?

You need to upgrade to a 360 with HDMI and use the HDMI dont continue to use the **** composite cable it's really not doing anything for you.

You can use component cables, they can accept 720p and 1080p. It will drastically improve your picture quality!

As long as your tv accepts 1080p through component. Component at 1080p vs HDMI looks pretty much the same IMO. I like the extra settings you get with HDMI though.
