1: you have to either get it professionally calibrated which costs a couple thousand dollars or you can by a calibration DVD... personally I use "Digital Video Essentials". I have a 40" Samsung LCD 1080p
2: i stands for interlaced and p stands for progressive. Interlaced basically means the TV is refreshing twice to simulate the amount of pixels in a 1080p HDTV. Progressive basically means that the TV doesn't have to refresh twice because it already has enough pixels to support the full HD resolution of the source. These are VERY basic explanations.... if you want to learn more... google it
