Hello everyone,

So, I was gonna play a game on my xbox360 ( Assassin's Creed).. The game shows the intro, and then you get the menu, after selecting new game, the game loaded. Then it started and in like the first few seconds I get and error.

It was telling me that it couldn't read the disc. So, I got the cd out cleaned it, and now it freezes when I select new game. I've also tried with other games, and it does the same thing. At least, it hasn't shown the flashing red rings.. I also tried playing the demos, and still the same thing. Now, I'm gonna attempt removing the hard drive like it says here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907586/

If this doesn't work, I don't know what else to do.. any tips? has this ever happened to anyone?

Thanks.!

Sad to say friend your 360 was fighting a virus. It will more then likely be the end and playing it X amount of hours has NOTHING to do with it. If you have a console manufactured during the periods of Nov 2005 to March 2007 chances are your console will sooner or later fail. The heatsink chips in these models came from a manufacturing plant that used inferior parts and Microsoft did not learn of this until it was already a HUGE problem.

Recently Microsoft took great measures in trying to fix this problem by removing all stock from store shelves, creating better heatsink chips and sending them back out to the stores but this only took affect in late July so MANY MANY MANY people had already purchased a ticking time bomb. To rectify this Microsoft issued an extended THREE YEAR warranty to those who experience the RROD. My advice to you is send it to Microsoft get it repaired or replaced then if you can sell it or trade it in to get a NEWER console with the HDMI ports and new heatsink chips. You shouldn't have any issues with those.

Call it in to microsoft. You are going to have to send it in. When i sent mine in i got a new console. I had two issues with mine and they decided not repair it. I got a new console with a note telling me to process it quicker they sent me a new one. I was only away for 2 weeks.

If you want to try something tell them your dvd drive will not open without a disc. That is what mine had so i had to force it open if i had closed it withough a disc. Because they would have to fix the heatsink and the drive they just shipped me a new one. You can try that tactic to get it back sooner or just wait.

Is that smart to lie about it's malfunction..? I just don't wanna wait that long. I'm on vacation now, and there isn't really anything to dohere at my house..My onlyoption, that doesn't take too long is going to Costco. But I'm not sure, if they'll give me a new one..:?

I had the same thing happen to me. My sister walked into the room and accidentally brushed the console's cord in the wall, and it started sputtering then it went red. When you see the Red Rings of Death, this means that the green light meaning your system is on, is having a malfunction causing a red ring. When in this state, REMOVE YOUR GAME FROM THE CONSOLE, and restart the system. If you do this immediately, the Red Rings will go away. Wait to long and your system is okay, but your game is skewered. I hope you didn't start trying out other games immediately! If you did, they might be messed up beyond repair. After you turn on the system, immediately turn it off once more, and let it rest a little while. It should be fine.

And now that I think of it... I don't remember where's my receipt. Plus, I don't live in the States.. I live in Puerto Rico, will MS take an order somewhere else that's not the States?

Costco will NOT take it back unless you have a warrenty from them or it has been less then seven days isnce purchase. Microsoft will TAKE it back without a receipt and form Mexico so long as you register with them.

I believe so. But I doubt you can send it in without receipt if you didn't buy it in states. And I think you need to pay quite a shipping and handling fee

Microsoft covers all shipping fees. They send you a box and in the box is a ups label already filled out and you slap it on the box and give it to ups (or whatever service they will use in P.R). Microsoft covers all costs they even give you tape to tape up the box.

So, MS will take it without charging me, but they won't take it since I don't have my receipt..? :?

This is all so very confusing...

I hope i get the rrod soon, i dont want it to go out of warranty and then get them, even though i have a good 14 months until then. Maybe my 360 will be alright, its lasted since launch. I'd still rather get a new one though, as my friends have all gone recently and i can feel the even nearing sound of of broken console :(

Lol, you guys don't know how Costco works around here.. I took an Ipod and it had like 6-7 months, it didn't really have any problems. But it was one of those nano Ipod's that were 4gb and cost about $279. When I saw that there were new ipods with more capacity and cheaper, I gave my ipod to Costco telling them that it was faulty, and they gave me the money back.
