Finally in the market to get an LCD TV and like any noob in the TV market I'm overwhelmed. I know a few things: one, my GF is NOT into TVs and has forbid me from getting some kind of huge monstrosity that takes up the whole living room (which isn't big anyway -- our couch is about 8 or 9 feet from the current crappy TV). Two: I don't have a fortune to spend and would prefer to keep the price well under 1000. Three: I'll eventually be getting a Blu-Ray player when one comes out. I've been eyeing up the 32" from Samnsung -- if its true that 1080p doesn't matter than I can go with the 720 version and it'd be just about 500 some dollars -- which I can afford easily! But I worry that Blu-Ray won't look good on this...or possibly Xbox games down the line. Well -- thoughts are welcome, thanks!

You're on the right track considering a Samsung, I have one and I can tell you from personal experience the quality when it comes to movies and gaming is great. I found this, the specs are good and it should suit your needs. It is 720p, you can hardly tell the difference with a 1080p TV of the same size. There's a few customer reviews if you want to check those out, see what people think about it.

Funny, that's the one I was looking at! Even cheaper on Amazon, almost so cheap that I started getting confident with my cash and started eyeing up the 37" model. I should probably save that cash though for the HDMI cable for the Xbox though, and a new game...

i got my 32" fullHDTV vizio (1080p) for 495$ at walmart of all places. it is AMAZING. i have all 3 next gen sys. the wii of course is abt same as ps2 on component, but bluray is jawdropping. most ps3 games only play in 720p & most 360 games are 1080p and look much better even on same game comparisons. most say the 360 is just upconversion, but ill take like i can get it. 360 on this tv = CANDY. ill try to find a link 4 it. might be cheaper elsewhere, but not in Nov. when i was looking. ur situation sounds very similar 2 mine so i figured id share my thoughts. mine is 4th one down. only a bill more for 37". dont let anyone lie &tell u this tv is not quality. i promise u would LOVE it like i do. mine is 4th one down. only a bill more for 37". dont let anyone lie &tell u this tv is not quality. i promise u would LOVE it like i do. and u can get crazy cheap, top notchHDMI cables from monoprice.com-very good for like $2.50.

I'm not just saying it because I hate the brand.. put them side by side and the actual brand names have a better picture. Vizio and others sell because they are cheap and that's all..

of course your 1080p tv will look better than your friends 720p... what an ignorant comparison. compare apples to apples and you'll see sony and samsung are the only 2 choices for an lcd. as to the original poster 720p will look great at 32" any bigger and you might need to look at 1080p... especially for bluray

Great tv. I got one. But they are plasma. If you shall get a LCD, i recommend you get a LED LCD.

Ok, hold up there... Please don't buy the Microsoft HDMI cable, I don't know the actual price, but I guess it must be expensive. A good HDMI cable will be for about 10-20 bucks and not more. If you search in Amazon you can even find HDMI cables for 3-5 bucks. Believe me, I've tried the MONSTER hdmi cable which sells for 40-60 dollars (If I remember correctly) and other cables which are much much cheaper, and the there's NO difference in quality. So I'd recommend you to go for the 37 or even a 42, and forget about buying an expensive HDMI cable. :)

For your price range id hop on over to best buy and get yourself a 42 inch 1080p Insignia LCD ($700) while the picture on a higher end brand may be a little better side by side you wont have a fancier tv to compare it to in your living room and it will look amazing. Im sure some folks will disagree but id sacrifice a little quality for size in the tv department

Here's a related question, regarding the HDMI cable. If the television was only 720p would that mean the HDMI cable is useless and I would just use the regular cables? Or would the HDMI cable still boost the quality (lets say this is on a 720 / 32" -- I really do think I'm getting that samsung)

if your tv is only 720p then you really dont need to invest in HDMI unless you will be hooking up multiple systems/components in which case you may run out of room otherwise, Honestly though id just save your money a little longer and bump up to a bigger 1080p set

The Sharp Aquos Series are the best TV's out there. My 32" 720P with 6 ms Response time was only 550$ on Sale and it looks better even to alot of 1080P models I compared it to. The picture quality is absolutely superb and I love it.
