Hello all! I'm making a push to get my girlfriend into playing games with me. She's been bingeing Harry Potter and Sims 3, and I want to move her onto the couch with me.

I have Beautiful Katamari, so I figured that might be a good start. But I'm looking for some recommendations for 360. She's used to old-school platformers, so those are welcome. But I'm down for anything you guys have to offer. I guess mostly good split-screen games. I'm eyeing 'Splosion Man, but we'll see.

Thanks!

Try games like MegaMan 9 on marketplace if she likes old school platformers. Although pricey, almost every girl i know loves abit of Guitar Hero/Rock Band ;).

Splosion Man co-op is pure fun. Try out LEGO series, excellent to play with her, great laughs.

Mirrors Edge, Fable... A game where you can play as a girl... I doubt she wants to play a Marcus Fenix or Master Chief just yet...

Yeah, we've got RB2 on the PS3. She saw the GH5 ad, showing Avatars in the game, which got her all excited. But that would require the extra dough and even more plastic instruments in the laundry room.

I think my ultimate goal is getting her to split-screen Borderlands with me before Christmas

Yeah, one of her friends is addicted to Lego:Star Wars. We may do that, but I was toying with the idea of just waiting for the Lego Harry Potter to drop....if that's in the next few months. 'Splosion Man sounds like a safe bet. She likes watching Portal....don't know about playing it. Thanks for all these recommendations! GT: Im Tom Jane

I personally loved Fable 2, but the co-op is quite disappointing. Anyway, as for recommendations I don't really know what to say. She could be interested in any game if she likes it. I'm not going to go and stereotype a game as "girl friendly" because games can appeal to anyone. Let her play a few different games, hardcore or casual. Shes bound to find something she'll like.

Yeah, I liked Fable 2, but I haven't touched the co-op. I like your approach as well, I think what I'm going to focus on is easing her into new control schemes and what not. She's still thinking like the SNES days, so the thumbsticks are throwing her a bit. GT: Im Tom Jane

I second Caslte Crashers. My gf and I played through the entire thing together, and she loved it. Also, EDF is a good choice. It'll let her get used to two thumbstick controls, but on easy it's not overly hard to the point where she'll get frustrated. Other than that, FPS's are a great way to get her used to the controls as well.

Yeah, I have Castle Crashers....I think that should work out, coupled with 'Splosion Man. Thanks to everyone for the recommendations, feel free to keep them coming in. So, i guess now I'm looking for games to help her match today's control schemes GT: Im Tom Jane

*facepalm* first of all there are a bunch of great titles listed on the first page, secondly the idea is not to read all those pages its to post your question at the end instead of creating a whole new thread for it

viva pinata?

kidstercool

Agreed.
When I'm stressed out from a rough day and I'm not playing so well on Halo or CoD.
I put Viva Pinata in. It's quite relaxing ;)
But I wouldn't really recommend it if you're trying to get her into gaming like.. If you plan on having her play Gears or Halo with you at some point. You can't really jump from a nice calming game like Viva Pinata to Halo haha. Not if you're trying to get into it.

I'd say 'Splosion Man would work. I hear Shadow Complex is quite good.. But that's iffy. I mean it's 2D side scrolling with a couple 3D parts in there. Very metroid prime and it's got a lot darker mood than other games. Maybe if she enjoys 'Splosion Man and the others.. Try getting her into that. That'd be a good way to see if she enjoys that kinda game with darker scenary and whatnot.

Id say go with GH or RB series. Maybe try games like street fighter next. Shadow Complex is a good platformer game too.

Truth is (and I have some experience with this) there are girls who would play video games, but MOST (not all) girls don't like playing video games. The most they do is play party games like Guitar Hero and so on. They just plain can't get into real games. I would try something simple and addicting like a puzzle type game.. other than that try something girly looking and colorful. I really don't think you're gonna be able to get her into the good games. But you know what, you don't really need to. Just like guys don't like to go shopping for shoes or whatever, girls just don't like this stuff.

While I agree with you, he already stated that she's played past games before. Old school NES and whatnot.
So it's obvious she plays video games.. She's not a girly girl that hates them. She just probably doesn't know how to get into todays mainstream gaming and that's what he's trying to do.
Get her into really good games today on Consoles like the 360. Instead of having her sitting across the room playing Sims 3.

I'll add you the next time me and my gf are playing Castle Crashers, some 4 player MP could bring some new life into the game (We've played the hell out of it). Maybe she'd be into Halo 3? It's not that bad to control, and legacy seems to be an easy jump-off point for fps controls as opposed to strafe and walk being on the same stick.

I woudl suggest some arcade puzzle games such as Bejeweled, etc. My wife plays Tiger Woods PGA Tour and any racing game. She doesn't like shooters - she claims the numerous bottons on the controller are confusing. She does watch me play from time to time and she's a baseball/basketball fan. I kinda lucked out lol

The only games my girlfriend plays are cute platform, puzzle and guitar hero games. We currently play Lego: Batman and Guitar Hero/Rock Band. She also wants me to buy Boogie Bunnies off XBL because she liked the demo. It does my head in though!

As she likes The Sims she might like Kingdom For Keflings (arcade). It's quite addictive and can be played with others.

She obviously likes developing characters or situations and not just shooting at stuff (by the sounds of it). So anything that's a bit like an RPG without too much shooting/fighting going on would probs be a good thing. She might also like something with some story to it, like Mass Effect or Bioshock. She'd get to make character choices in those, which might appeal to her because of her appreciation of Sims games. Fable 2 might appeal, as others have said.

There is no typical 'girl-gamer' however, as just like guys...girls can like/dislike all kinds of games. The only way for her to discover what she enjoys playing is to try them.

Download a bunch of demos and have a demo marathon one night - see which games (arcade and normal games) she leans towards :) Good luck.
