i never used a fan before but i played through halo3 without using 1 but im probaly going to get oblivon would i need it

then go buy one. you dont really need help with that. and just because theres a lot to do in oblivion doesnt mean you would be playing it straight through.
Nah you wont NEED it. I dont think it will hurt but it isn't compulsory. Make sure you ask the guys at the store first though (this is where NOT buying at Wal-Mart is good) because they'll know which ones are best. My friend had the fan for when your 360 is vertical, and the weight eventually pushed down on the fans and they were grinding away so he threw it out. I had the one that goes on the back where the power cable connects and that was pretty noisy and eventually screwed up, so I took it off and couldnt be bothered getting a new one in case they were all defective. Been playing about 18 months with no fan and no problems.

well I personally wouldnt buy one, I have had my 360 since launch and never needed one. they really arent necessary, just leave the 360 in an open space and not confined in an entertainment system.

I'm pretty much the only one that plays my 360 so maybe thats why I am ok without one. If you plan of having gaming nights with buds and stuff, marathon sessions, then maybe it's worth picking one up and using it when you need to.
Do yourself a favor and don't buy a fan. I made some search about it a while back after I bought mine and I saw so many comments of people saying it break your system. I even saw picture of a fan that melted the connection where it is pluged on the 360. I even took it off of my 360 and I never used it again.
Just put your 360 horizontaly and not on the vertical so you don't block the ventilation hole on the bottom of your xbox and everything will be fine.
