Hello everyone, I have been thinking about purchasing an Xbox 360 for quite some time. I'm thinking about purchasing this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Xbox-360-Arcade-Console-with-Bonus-50-Gift-Card/10902802 However, I was wondering, first of all, does this have the jasper chipset? Also, has Microsoft greatly fixed the Red Ring of Death yet? Is there any installing on the 360, for example, if I bought Fallout 3 GOTY Edition or Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, would I have to install the expansion packs? And lastly, is this console backwards compatible?

look walmart gives a lot walmart gift cards for any big ticket items... second i highly recommend u get xbox with a hard drive. you will so regret it. yes all xboxs made past 09/2009 is jasper set. yes jasper reduces rrod. yes u can install your games to hard drive but u still need disc to confirm that u still own the game. and iuf u bought goty editions you will need install the dlc to be able use it.... not sure about backward compatible because i haven't played a first xbox game on the system since they shut down the first xbox live services.. even if you can download the patch to be able play them on 360 u need hard drive to so

First off, I recommend you hold your horses, because in 2 hours it is Microsofts e3 press conference, and I am 90% certain a slimline 360 will be announced which will hopefully be reliable. All other 360s are still fairly unreliable, but the new one will hopefully be a vast improvement. You do not HAVE to install games but it is greatly recommended you do so as to have quicker loading times, and to quieten the sound of a jet plane taking off that is the 360 disc drive! I would certainly not recommend you getting an arcade 360 simply because the hard drive is vital for save games, DLC, videos, installs, in fact anything! A hard drive is almost compulsary, so if you decide you do not want a slimline 360, at the very least go for a 60GB premium or an elite.

i would say wait until after E3 and see what happens, you never know there may be a new 360 slim announced or a price reduction, or both,

so i would say wait a few days and see what happens

it looks like there is a slim coming out so the old 360s will drop heavily in price. wait a few weeks and then pick one up cheap with a hdd, live sub and a few games.

At this point I would wait for a slim and a price cut. Personally I'm waiting for 360 w/ HDD to be $199 or less. I'd rather not get the old model (even jasper), hoping the slim solves the reliability issues once and for all. If slim comes out soon after E3 there should be some decent bundle deals and giftcard deals in time for the holidays. As far as the games: I'm pretty sure RE5 Gold you have to download the content on XBOX live, if you have a PS3 I'd get it on that because the expansions are already on the disc. Fallout 3 I believe you also have to download the additional content rather than it being on disc, but this runs better on 360 because it was a developed as a PC game first. I've avoided these game and Oblivion on my PS3 until I either have a better PC or a 360.
