Help with Xbox live gold issue.

Yesterday I went to a friends house to set up his xbox one. Made his new account and gamertag all that stuff, then added his 3 month gold card. Heres the problem, it shows the subscription on his xbox one when we look in options and subscriptions but it doesn't seem to be attached to his gamertag. He can play games online but the options for games with gold isn't there just an option telling him to buy a subscription to xbox live gold, I'm not sure what went wrong or how to fix it?

Should be activated straight away, but maybe not with a brand profile. The privileges may yet need to be activated by MS, at a guess!! Have you tried logging onto the portal via a PC. I find that way more easier to manage everything Xbox.

@transk53: Yeah we tried logging in on his laptop that night to see if it would show things different on there but didn't.
