720 for games that involve fast movements (racing games, shooters, ect)
so basically 720 for almost all games
720p is better for faster images, 1080i is better for sharper images, 1080p owns all Are there any games that support anything greater than 720 at the moment ? i recall that M$ said that 1080 wasn't required, but quickly backtracked & are/have updated the firmware to support it720 for games that involve fast movements (racing games, shooters, ect)

Virtual Tennis will be the first game on 360 to run in native 1080p. As alot of people have said though 720p is more likely the sweetspot for this generation of consoles. It's very difficult to get a great looking game running at 1080p smoothly. Even 90% of PS3 games are still only in 720p. Resistance and Motor Storm etc. I think MS only added the 1080p support as a middle finger to Sony who were bashing the console for not having it. I don't think they realistically expect every game to run in native 1080p.
I also read somewhere that Forza 2 will run in 1080p native at a locked 60fps which is a pretty damn impressive feat since as far as I'm aware the only game anyone has ever managed to do that so far was the Gran Turismo HD demonstration a while back which was basically just the PS2 version running in higher resolution.
