What is the deal with the people on Live? Can anyone just play games just to have fun? I entered a lobby last night for a match, and the "players" began berating me with profanities about my gender preferences and my mother (I'm pretty sure they don't know her). After a minute of them giving me grief because I would not respond to them with my own comments, I left to find another game. They proceeded to leave me bad feedback for leaving early, even though they had not started the game. They were too busy practicing their profanity strings. They had no idea who I was, but they were running on with their mouths. I seriously doubt they would do the same if they were face to face with someone. Without making this too long (too late), I have noticed this among players (especially in Gears) a lot lately. Yes, I could turn the voice off, but then I can't communicate with my teammates (in a civil manner - just to mix it up a bit). Players tell you how lame you are if you lose, or complain about the methods you are using to dispatch them (or call it cheating) if you win. I have tried to leave feedback for them, but I am not sure it does anything. The online experience is just not fun with these "people" ruining it for civilized players. I am horrified to ever let my children play on Live! I am no expert online, and don't have the time to invest to be one of the elite, but I try to respect people and just have fun. Respect seems to be a forgotten idea, and that scares me too. Let's all just have fun, which is what games are intended to provide. No more gangstas on Live please! Thanks for letting me vent! :-)

I thought my friend was the only one who uses the word "hoodlums" :P guess I was wrong. Well back to the point, there are people gonna talk smack wether you beat them or not, and in my opinion is just stupid. Just be cautious of who you play with, you might end up with as*holes or some decent mature people, but its more likley your gonna iwnd up playing with an as*hole or a kid, did i just repeat myself, sorry...

People like this simply serve to reinforce their behaviour by rationalizing it through ad hominem fallacies and saying things like "Hey, it's Xbox Live man, people are supposed to be douchebags." I agree, it's a waste of time playing many games on multiplayer. There ARE some alternative options. RTSs and MMORPGs tend to lack an abundant amount of profane people. Usually because people that play these games have a more fully developed diction. Or, just stop playing online. It isn't necessary, and it certainly doesn't compare to a well-developed narrative and engaging single-player gameplay.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that the confrontational kids are reacting to a perceived increase in the number of casual gamers on Live. You know, because they've been playing games since the launch of the original Xbox, when video gaming was raw, and are Hardcore and old-school, bwahaha.

So, just stop playing, or make fun of their puberty. They'll be in awe of your dropped balls.

Get over it? What a great, intelligent, well-thought out, and lucid response. I am so impressed with it I don't know how to contain myself.

Best. Advice. Ever. Seriously though, I never talk to people online because as soon as I enter a Halo or Gears lobby it's always people making racial slurs or talking about my username or whatever. I just plug the headset in so the sound doesn't come out of my speakers. To be honest, unless it's really strategy oriented I don't give a crap what people have to say online.

Internet thugs, they're everywhere.

also, EVERYONE complains on Gears.

It wouldnt be Gears of War unless everyone complains, whines, or quits.

Great game, horrid community

Welcome to Xbox LIVE it's the wonderful service you and I pay for, seeing as we pay for it people are entitled to being dicks. Now however, you have the choice to Mute those people or just not wear your Mic that choice is yours and yours alone. If you sit there and just listen to them curse then it's noones fault but your own.

xbox live thugs are everywhere on gears. ignoring them is the best thing to do, which you did. if it gets to the point that you feel you should leave do so, and if they send badfeedback, just send it right back. I dont think people understandt hat when you send bad feedback you could ultimatly cause someone to be banned, so if your doing it to be a douchebag, then stop.

No, we shouldn't "Get over it"! We pay monthly to enjoy games online and I don't think these little jerks and some times 20-30 year old jerks have the right to ruin it. Just because your anonymous doesn't give you the right to say hurtful and hateful things to others. Also this abuse of the feedback system is getting ridiculous!

How would you like it if I came to where you worked or lived, face to face, and berated you?? Would you like that? Probably not, so what makes this any different. Some people don't understand that a thing like common courtesy still applies even in a virtual environment. So no, I'm not getting over it.

I don't mind it, afterall its the internet, you can be whoever you want to whenever you want to. I expect alot of trash talk especially during violent games like Gears. What do you expect people to say while chainsawing you into pieces! Learn to use the mute button, its there for a reason you know.

It could also be your Gamerzone that is attracting these "hoodlums." I use to have my gamerzone be Pro and I encountered these players on a day to day basis. Once I changed to Recreation, I have encountered them less and less. In my opinion, these kind of players crack me up. Its like they have nothing better to do then insult people to make themselves feel better about who they are. I've heard two people going at it that were in the same party on CoD 4. I was laughing so hard that I was tearing up.
