I am getting a xbox 360 soon and i was wondering how the people online are, ifthey are friendlyto people new to games or just swearing at them all the time
I've met a lot of nice people and a lot of idiots. The people 16 and under tend to be complete asses. Most people 17+ are cool to talk to for the most part. I meet more cool people than I do asses.

Yup, this pretty much sums it up (although you'll meet quite a few nice people > 17). Key thing is, once you've played a match and had a great time with your teamates, send them friend requests so you can play with them again in the near future.
The only game where I've met alot of idiots is playing Halo 3 (luckily you can mute them or just private chat with a friend on your team and don't have to hear everyone else), other than that people playing Gears and Rainbow Six are cool and don't complain or swear (unless they get cut down with the chainsaw over and over). I've got about 20 good friends on my friends list that I play with often and when you get a full team of people you like then the games get even more fun. If you are playing a game that has alot of jerks in it, just turn on music and crank it out...nothing like kicking some butt with your own personal soundtrack.
With a user base of 8 million, you're bound to run into some jags online. There's no avoiding that. But for the most part, the people are pretty cool. Once you run into a couple of people online that you get along with, put them on your friends list and try to stick with them. Helps to avoid the punk ass 12 year olds.
After having it for almost 6 months I've gotten to the point where I only use the headset if I play with people I am friends with in real life because I can't stand the vast majority of people I meet on Live. Especially games like Gears of War where they are filled with thousands of prepubescent elitists who cry throughout the whole match in their whiney high pitched voices. Or games like CoD4 and Halo are filled with complete morons who continually prove their ignorance of a great deal of things over and over again.
kids so nice aah sreamin kids haha! well people who like to play cod4 online and team fortress send me friend recuist or message i need people who dont scream and sing all the time haha! and would be cool to get good team for cod4 so we can play together allways when we are online same time that make gaming fun cos everyone speak and support team!! so all who like good gamin(no screaming/have mic/speak english) send me message on xbox! gamername= MysticJamppa aaa ye im from finland age:27 i speak english pretty well and understand english well too 8)
It's already been said, but why not. 17+ are usually the nice ones and under that are usually people yelling profantities and singing ... I feel like the only 15 year-old on XBL with any common-sense/the ability to talk to people instead of screaming and swearing. Be prepared to meet a lot of little kids screaming there faces off, people swearing and saying "WTF MAN" after every death and lots of singing. But there are quite a few people out there (safe to say that I'm one) that'll welcome you to Xbox Live and maybe show you the ropes.

I was told in the twenties, And I only tend to add people I know in my personal life to my friends list who have 360 not randoms people. But I don't see why you need 100 friends on xbox live, I only add people I know in real life though I do accept when random people send me invites but i tend to never play with them.

The friends list is 100, I promise you. There are a lot of cool people online and once you get a group of people for whatever game youre into online becomes a whole lot of fun. Just be friendly and most people will either shut up or be friendly back.
yeah some people are dbags i like the older gamers cuz they dont believe being funny is screaming into the mic funny to them is when they kill someone in a humorous way or someone dies in a funny way
Key word is that most underaged kids are bumbling idiots devoid of any positive attributes online, I, am not among those. Funny thing happened to me, I went to a friend's house for our monthly LAN party and after it died down, I went to play with my friend [King O Jews is his GT], and my friend Matt walks into the room Im playing CoD4 in, and starts screaming into the mic. I mute it, push him outta the room, lock the door, and remember, treat others the way you wanna be treated.
There are some good, respectful people but there are just as many morons. There are people who are racist and will teamkill you just becauseyour character is black. Youcould be white in real life for all they know, but if the characteryou are playing as is black they will kill you without hesitating. Also, for some unknown reason to me, there are a surprising amount of people from the UK who are for some reason anti-American. Just like the racist idiots, they will kill you on the spot if you are from the US. Also,there are an overwhelming amount of annoying people who will do nothing but make stupid sounds and talk like they are tough into the microphone. I got to the point where I don't even use a headset anymore. If I wanted to hearracist moronstalk I'd watch the Jerry Springer show. And even considering all of this, I still subscribe to Xbox Live, but I only play a few games online.
