I don't know about the newer verison, but don't NOT buy the 1st generation zune.

The LCD screen overtime will break on its own. Has something to do with the battery placement being right under the LCD screen and too much heat will eventually crack the screen from the inside. The warranty does not covers it. Just do a search on goole or youtube on "crack zune LCD".

I had my zune for about a year and never once drop it. One day when I turned it on just had some wiggly lines going all over..I did a search about it and its funny to see how so many people had the same problem and yet many people don't believe them and said they must have dropped it or what not. That stuff don't break on its own...I found it pretty amusing because my zune did break on its own.

Well I've had my Zune about 6 months, I have droped it many many times. On my hard wood floor as well as out side on the street.

It's still working great, No cracks or anything on the screen. If your going to get one I would get the 80GB version as it has better battery life. I have the 30GB version which is just fine.

I could just see any Ipod in peaces for some of the falls that my zune has taken. What can I say I'm a dumb *** and I drop stuff.LOL

Funny I saw this while I was listening to the radio on my zune. Yeah they are wonderful and there is plenty of things you can do with it on the 360. you can stream everything from your zune to your 360. Replying to what the other guy said, it actually doesn't matter if you get a first generation or a second generation because the moment you plug the thing into the computer and sync it with a updated version of zune software, it will automatically update your Zune to the second generation. So technically the first gens dont exist anymore unless you have no access to a computer. As far as the zune to get I would suggest the 30gb one. It stores a lot of songs and tons of videos and pictures. The zune community is also great and the software uses microsoft points which you can use similtaniously with xbox live. The zune all in all is way better than the ipod and definately the best choice for someone with a microsoft console. get it.

The new zunes are actually pretty durable since they have an optical glass screen which is hard to crack... I dont really like the Zune software that much though. It looks cool but I still like windows media player better.. Anyway, Yes you should buy one!! GOOOO GOO GO now why are u readsing this go buy one now!! :)

OOO and plus the Zune market place sells only DRM FREE music. So if you buy music from them you can you use it on any future MP3 player weather it be a nother brand or a new zune or even an Ipod. Were as Itunes is loaded with DRM music.

You do realize the firmware doesn't change the way that it is physically built right? If the above poster is telling the truth and the battery placement will cause the screen to overheat and crack, changing the firmware isn't going to change that. In that case... yeah, it does matter what gen you buy.

Well, the biggest difference between a Zune and an iPod is the online service. On iTunes you pay for each song individually for a dollar, on the zune you pay $15 a month and you can get pretty much whatever you want. If you pirate your music you may as well just buy whichever one is cheaper, they're both compatable with a 360.

Yes both the Ipod and Zune are made to last about a year. That means you have about a year tell you see a large drop in battery life,ECT.

I'm sure you're Zune or Ipod will last 2 or 3 years of you get a new battery every year. But by then I'm sure it will be unsupported be software and battery makers.

Agreed. But I do wish it had some of the Zune's features such as built in radio and wireless syncing.

I have a 30 gig zune and I love it. You can hook it up to your 360 and listen to the tracks that way. I like the fact that I pay 15 bucks a month and I can download all I want. Every now and then I run into an album that isn't available, but for the most part they have an awesome catalog available for download. Much better than 99 cents a song. You can send songs to other zunes wirelessly. I highly recommend getting one.

I bought the first 30 GB Zune when it released in late 2006. I got the Black one and it's great. There are a few software updates a year, DRM free music (not when it first came out, but things changed when people complained), bigger screen, more durable, LOUD headphones, pisses Apple geeks off, etc.

And it's sweet to pull it out of the velvet pimp bag (included) and have peope ask all kinds of questions about it. It has more features than the ipod as well. It just gets a bad rap from all the conformists out there who refuse to use anything but ipod.

Personally, I prefer the Zune (bought the 30GB version this year). It's simple to use, has loads of features and is simple to use. Most people complain about the fact that it doesn't have a scroll wheel or touch wheel but to be honest, I don't think it REALLY needs it! In the long run though, I think it's just a matter of what you're used to and what your own personal opinion is.

I've had my zune for a few months now and I love it. I have the 30Gig one and it has a good battery life and tons of features. I love the zune software as well. I dont know about zune's but with Creative if you have to replace it you loose all your playlists and tracks and have to import them all over again. With the zune I can just sync it again and its all done. Videos are great too. I love going to the gym and watching game trailers or watching on the spot.

Yeah, it's true you can sync wirelessly. It's a really nice feature. I've had my Zune basically since launch and I love it. I've never heard of the screen cracking issue, mine is just fine.

Zune rocks, no doubt about it.

Just so you know, ditch the 30 gig. If you buy the 80 gig, you're basically paying another 50 bucks, aka, 1 dollar for every gigabyte. Plus, you can go online to Zune Originals, check it out, and get some VERY cool artwork on the back, completely free. What's more, the 2nd gen hardware is much slimmer, and looks less like a brick; much much less. Oh, and while the firmware will update and give you the pretty new interface, you're still not gonna get the smaller player. So, pay the 250 dollars and get the 80 gig, like yours truly.

dont worry about it dude, those are only for people who dont take care of them. i got my 30 gig one week before they were released in stores because i was the MP3 rep at circuit city. a year and a half later... no problems, the battery still runs great and its used every day. about the screen cracking... ive heard about it, but has never affected any zune of mine or the zunes of anyone else i know. a simple solution could be to not leave it out in the sun for a long time.

you can wirelessly sync the zune but you have to be signed into your zune account so its the same as updating it but you don't plug it in. zune's are cool though, I just wish I didn't have to start a song over again if I leave to look at pictures or something

Not all the songs on sune marketplace are DRM free, actually the majority of them are DRM so thats not really a bonus because the chances that the song you want being DRM free are slim. When compared to the ipod the only thing the zune fails at is a video marketplace. I'm sure they will eventually have videos on zune marketplace but for now they don't. If you just want a music device and are not really worried about having the conveinence of video, i believe the zune is better in every way.

EDIT: Sorry... didn't realize you were getting the Second Gen... those are the prices for the First Gen.

Yeah, I bought my wife the 4GB red Zune at Target. It had a $15 gift card when you buy it, so I picked it up for her.

She freakin loves this thing, I must say that it's pretty neat and yes, It's freakin loud on the ears. You can't even hear anything at all, GOOD THING to have.

i actually leave mine in the car all the time, 99% of the time lying directly in the sun. like i said, ive never had a problem with the screen cracking. it didnt boot once because it was too hot though, but it does the same thing when its too cold. this does sound like neglect, but still... 1.5 years and still running strong

I too was looking into a 2nd Generation Zune - too bad they aren't in Canada yet. But, if the iPod Touch slaps in an FM Tuner, I'm getting that for sure.

I have the 80 gig and love it. My wife has a 8 gig and loves hers as well. With the new games coming out for it I'm excited. Yeah they are only going to be live arcade type games, but then sometimes that's all you need.
