I own Gears and played the Halo 3 MP beta. Both i was bored of in 1 day. The games each have 2 guns that are usefull (Gears = shotty / sniper) (Halo = lazer/sniper) and both (Gears especially) have small maps.
Both games are pretty much deathmatch, team deathmatch or CTF, although it seems like Team Deathmatch is all thats played.
How is this fun? You play the same small maps over and over using the same guns running around shooting people for no good reason other than to get your score up.
Gears Single Player was way more entertaining and kept my attention for way longer than the MP.
I played mostly PC games before i got My 360 and compared to a game like RedOrchestra ( or others like BF1942/DOD/DODS/Half-Life DM, Even CS/CSS) these games are terrible. Atleast in the PC games you can have many User Created maps, multiple guns that are usefull, objectives and dedicated servers.
The graphics on RedOrchestra are terrible and its based on a Very old engine, but its got tonnes more atmosphere and immersion than GeOW and Halo. And frankly, i find it way more fun and engaging.
What do you people see in these games to be able to play the MP for so long and still enjoy it?

Surely before you even made this topic or put your words down you knew the answer invariably comes down to personal opinion.

You might think there are only 2 worthwhile guns in Halo, but I would disagree and say you are not using them properly. Also in terms of game types, Halo offers more than your traditional CTF, TDM and DM. There is King of the Hill, Oddball, VIP, Big Team Battle, 2 vs 2. Plus there are vehicles, both on ground and in air, fast and small, big and slow. I certainly think it is on par with anything the PC has to offer.

Gears is a different story in terms of variation and options, but what it does do, it does well.

Day of Defeat and Counter Strike rely heavily on scoped weapons and the same tactics get used every game and get's quite boring. The only game I will agree with you on is Battlefield. There is simply so much that can be done in that game and it is always frantic and exciting.

User created maps? Come on now, you know that isn't possible (for the most part) on consoles and dedicated servers (while better) is not the idea behind Xbox Live, so it's not a fair comparison.

I agree that PC online games usually are a lot better than console online games IMO, but I still think Gears & Halo have amazingly fun online play (despite not having dedicated servers/custom maps/mods/etc.).

i will agree that gears MP isn't very good, but not for the same reasons. and if you think that halo only has small maps and 2 usefull guns than you didn't play it very much.

If you only played the Halo 3 beta and are basing your opinion on the entire Halo franchise just on that then sure you will think it is very limited when it comes to multiplayer. Halo 2 has a variety of different modes as well as a mode editor which means you can create your own game types and classify weapon spawns and all that good stuff then play them with friends. I an not sure on the exact number but Halo 2 has over ten maps ranging from small, medium and large, with more then just two useful weapons on them all. You have weapons like the SMG, Plasma Rifle, Plasma Pistol, Battle Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Sword, Sniper Rifle, Magnum, Frag Grenades, Sticky Grenades, Carbine, Beam Rifle and powerups such as active camo and overshield. Halo 3 will only build on this further and will also give players the ability to save matches and show them to friends over live with the cool little replay system. Halo may not be the best shooter in all of video gaming but it revolutionized the console FPS and proved that you don't need to have a PC to play a good FPS.

If need a goal in your FPS's, other then just having fun, then yes you are not going to like Halo or GEoW MP. People like them because they are fun, not because they have a goal to attain. And if you think there are only 2 useful guns in each, then clearly you didn't even try to use the other weapons correctly. Anyone would know that the crazy weapon in GEoW is the Tork (sp?)Bow, had they played the MP long enough.

I like them both because beating the other guy is a thrill. And all the random crap that happens is always funny.

Granted I don't find either of them to be spectacular. The multiplayer in GEoW is too glitchy to be injoyable for too long.

And yet another PC gamer who doesn't get it. And you also don't get it's based on opinion apperently and on top of that you even don't get you are in the wrong forum to post this. Bashing threads go to System Wars.

So, basically, you don't know anything and it would take a long time answering your post since there are no words in there that make sense or are true.

So just leave and let us have fun like we always had. You won't change our minds anyway.
