The xbox derives itself as a gaming console rather than a multimedia console and as a result it doesnt need to, however there isn't really any reason why when the new updates; twitter etc are released that they include the ability to surf the internet. Even if it is just for gold members.

The benefit of integrating Facebook and Twitter is so one can use it without a browser (a la the Facebook or Twitter apps on a Blackberry of iPhone). Yes, those both have browsers, but it's nice when you are able to use it without one. I don't see many people using a browser on the XBOX if it had one anyways...
Probably also to prevent viruses and increased hackers on the 360. So many people would go to infected porn sites Live would be down constantly and there would be 15 threads on here about how it sucked so bad that Live was down and that they should have never put in a browser. I'm fine infecting my computer thank you

When I saw the big smiley you posted, for some reason I thought Slash would be smiling too. I think I'm losing my mind. So much so that I'm starting to think maybe the Xbox should surf the net? (Just kidding, trying to keep the post relevant)
I recently used the web browser on the PS3 and it was terrible. If they release one for the 360 I hope it is better than that but I would much prefer features that are actually useful.

A browser with limited functionality would serve (me) a great deal. I travel quite frequently and have gotten into the habit of taking my 360 with so I can play in my hotel rooms. (It keeps me out of the bars!). The major problem is, when connecting to a hotel's high speed internet you have to accept the terms and conditions to do so. Not possible with a 360. Normally, I can just call the ISP and tell them what I want and they push my IP through. They even claim to get hundreds of these exact calls a month. Strangely, some of the smaller ISPs "do not support gaming consoles" (what, why? Safer than a PC!) and will not connect me. Now, I have already spoofed the MAC address from my lapper as the alternate MAC address for my 360, so the router thinks my 360 is my laptop and connects me. (As long as I have already accepted the T&C first on my lapper) But geez, should it have to be that cumbersome when Microsoft is the one that makes it?
You already have xbox live what other news would u care about on a explorer that its not on xbox live and you are gonna browser on your gaming console?!

So why do they not supply a mouse and keyboard to go with it? because this is a video game console, not a computer. Last time I checked, we bought video game consoles for video games. now we're getting Netflix and all that other junk... Chances are that anyone with a 360 and access to XBL has a computer with internet. Heck, just wire up those two on a router or something and use both at once.
Because it's a video game console? If consoles were supposed to surf the Internet, then it would have been included since the very beginning. Video game systems are meant to play video games on, computers are used to surf the net, simple as that.
