Ya it's very random. My premium died after 10 months. Started up Fight night and went online to play a couple fights and got maybe 10 seconds into the match and the system froze to a black screen. Was thinking darn...ok i'll just restart it thanks for crashing game...restarts and freezes on the xbox logo. restart again and red lightskarmageddon2k4
Oh and to add. My 360 had been sitting in the same spot since i bought it. Never dropped it or did anything other than leave it there and play. Had decent breathing room. Goes to show that they like to spontaneously diekarmageddon2k4
This ladies and gentleman is a great example of why I will not get a Xbox 360 until the next generation Xbox comes years from now.
The power got knocked out during a thunderstorm. After the power came back on, i turned my 360 back on and it was very sluggish. I restarted it and then I got the red lights. Luckily it happened one week before my Gamestop warranty was up.
i played for 10 hours straight and it started freezing while playing gears of war online
i think the problem was overheating, cause behind my 360 there was a wooden door
Mine still works fine. I honestly think a lot of the problems come from owners neglecting to take proper care of their systems. I've always taken care of my games and systems to help avoid problems. Sometimes when a person finds something wrong with a game or anything else they would rather blame it on a company like MS than accept it. I find it really strange how so many people say they've had problems yet they keep buying more and more. If I had a system just die on me out of nowhere I'd be a little worried about it happening again and just take a break.Coldplay07
Sorry dude, but your answer is totally incorrect. My lauch 360 got the three rings of death through no fault of my own (see my multiple posts regarding this on the Broken Xbox 360 Discussion and Help Thread). All my friends call me the most anal, OCD person they know- I organize all my CDs, DVDs alphabetically, constantly clean and dust all my crap... you get the idea. I've been a gamer for going on 20 years now (I'm 32), and I've always taken care of my systems. M$ doesn't admit to any of this, but the 360 has a design flaw andthey rushed out the 360 to be the first in the next-gen wars. Essentially the processing chips they use generate a tremendous amount of heat, and it melts the solder that attaches it to the motherboard, thereby causing the three rings of death. This is why M$ is going to use a different type of chip in their fall production line.
Another thing: you're s'pose to plug the 360 DIRECTLY into the wall socket, NOT a surge protector. When I called M$ to fix my 360, the rep who helped me said that's what probably killed it.
Anyways, no one really knows what causes the hardware failure, because M$ ain't saying. It's all speculation right now. But, it is a problem, as evidenced by the fact that the Broken Xbox 360 Discussion and Help Thread is the longest 360 forum on Gamespot.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Consider yourself lucky that it hasn't happened to you yet, and maybe it never will. But the hardware failure is not because people don't take care of their systems; I'm sure in a small percentage that's the case. But there is a deeper problem, one that M$ won't admit to.
Coldplay rocks. Seen 'em three times in concert.
