Well where did you sign up for xbox live? If you signed up on xbox.com then they will not ask you for a free month. You have to start a new account on your 360 and sign up for silver,when your almost done they will ask you if you want a free month of gold just say yes and your done.

r u guys serious? if u do the good thing like they tell you in the manual and sign up early they rob u of ur free trial? that sucks and i was thinking of connecting to live this summer
Well, considering how awesome Live is, and the fact that it costs about $50 a year (about a third of the price to play an MMO), I would go ahead and do that now. Sometimes you can find the card in stores that has 12 months "plus one bonus month" for the same price.
