If you have oblivion, clear the cache while its starting and that will get rid of all your patches

Even in Oblivion - clearing the cache would be useless. A patch isn't stored as cached memory...

It may very well be impossible to remove an already downloaded/applied patch (unless you can find a way in the System blade). Once it's applied, it basically embeds itself with the game - booting everytime the game is loaded.

Try looking in the System -> Memory area in your dashboard. If you find a file which isn't a game save, isn't a picture pack, etc - TRY removing it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND doing this ... but if the game is literally unplayable - it may be the last resort.

Ever think the problem could be elsewhere? (i.e. a scratch on the disk?)

Nope no scratches on the disk. I checked the saved files and there were no patches. any other suggestions?

lol, you're trying to cheat. You're removing a patch so you can get achievement points or something. N00b-alert!

you peel one of the edges off and then pull it off real quick so the pain comes all at once and then goes away.
