I have a couple people coming over later today, and my friend's bringing his xbox360 and Halo3. How do I connect to his xbox? Can i use an ethernet cable and connect one side to my 360 and the other to his 360, or is it a specific type of cable?

ok so I was reading around the internets and it said that you cant connect them directly, you need a "hub". What is that? I have a router, is that the same thing? So that means I can connect an ethernet cable to the router and another cable to the router and thatll work right?

Yes, that'll work. That's what we usually do at our LAN parties, anyways. If you want more than four people, though, you'll probably need to buy a switch, which has up to 16 most of the time.

we have six people playing. So I'll need to buy a switch then? But my router has 4 ethernet ports, cant I just connect two cables and have 4 people playing on one tv, and 2 people playing on the other?

You can actually use a normal ethernet cord for 2 360s. In a bungie weekly update Frankie said that the 360's can do the crossover by themselves. Soooo no hub needed, not even a crossover cable is needed

You take as many 360s as you are planning to use, keep in mind 4 is the max. Then you either hook each of them up to a router or connect them wirelessly with the wireless network adapter.

No, you CAN have more than 4 360s, but you need to buy a switch. Last night we had 6. But yeah, if you're just having two 360s then a router will work without too many problems. The only thing is that if you are playing against someone else behind a router, you won't be able to hear them talk, nor can they hear you, due to NAT restrictions. And hosting gets complicated when that happens. But you should be fine.

As a side note, you can fix it so that Xbox Live is let through, but you have to know how to port forward on a router.

You can connect two 360's directy from the back of one unit to the other with an ethernet cable, no router. but if you want to do more than 2 you have to have a router.
