Well you can't really, if it's going to happen there's nothing to you can do to stop it. I'd recommend getting a in store warranty for two years, then if it breaks you can excahnge it right away and not have to wait like 2-3 weeks for a new console

You cant and there is no point getting all worked up and worrying about it you only hear about the people who have trouble you don't hear about the 100s of thousands of people who's consoles haven't and may never given then any grief! ;)

You can avoid this by actually taking care of your 360 and not leaving it on for extended periods of time. its a delicate piece of machinery, not like the big black box. with the black box you could thrash it around and leave it on all day and night and it would still work. my brother left my 360 on for extended periods of time, and this is how it got the red ring of death.

PLay it as much as you want, amount of playing doesn't matter anymore it did when the console was first released and overheated easily but not anymore. When I first got my 360 and Oblivion I had the console on for like 13-14 hours straight playing it constantly overnight. I've had my 360 for almost 6 months now and do lots of gaming marathons and it still work fine, only thing I have a problem with is the disk tray but it's not a huge problem at all

Just remember that the heat is the console's biggest enemy, keep it in well ventilated areas and take some breaks between gaming sessions. Also, don't buy any coolers or anything of the sort, if it's not certified by Microsoft the don't use it on your console.

there are ways to avoid it by adding some hardware to the console i got my rrod like 6 days ago after more than one year of healthy xbox, i'm at one step from solving it just by cleaning the gpu and adding a few extra cooling my problem was really gpu overheating console wouldnt start at all now it starts and i can play a long time before it gives me problems

This spell will keep evil and unhappy spirits out of your 360.
Materials:
Red candle
Table salt

After nightfall when the sky is dark, light the red candle. Clear your mind of dark, unhappy thoughts or distractions and invoke your personal protection spirits.

Hold the lit candle at chest level and face East. Say the following: Spirits of the East of the Rising Sun I ask your help. Hear me as I ask for your protection.

Turn to the North Say the following: Spirits of the North of the Ice and Snow, I ask your help. Hear me as I ask for your protection.

Turn to the West, say the following: Spirits of the West, of the Setting Sun, I ask your help. Hear me ask as I ask for your protection.

Turn to the South, say the following: Spirits of the South of the warmth I ask your help. Hear me as I ask for your protection.

Face the doorway Say the following while sprinkling salt onto the flame of the candle:
As I gather the protection of the Wind, Earth, Fire, and Water, I ask that no Evil shall be allowed accross the boundries of this home. All who reside in it are begged to receive your protection. Goddess of the Moon here my plea for protection. Sprinkle more salt on the door frames, on the window sills. When you are done, hold the candle again at chest level, face the East: Thank you, Spirits of the East. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and protection. Face North Thank you Spirits of the North. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and protection. Face West Thank you Spirits of the West. Return to your homes with my gratuitude for your help and proctection. Face South Thank you Spirits of the South. Return to your homes with my gratitude for your help and protecion. Face the first door again : Thank you Goddess of the Moon. With your protection this house and all who live in it are safe from harm. No evil shall cross, no evil shall enter. Return to your home with my gratitude for your protection. Hold the candle up over your head, then down to the floor. Be sure to thank the Spirits and let them know you are finished. Spirits must know that they are done and are released to go back to their homes. Un-thanked Spirits may not want to go home right away, and can cause problems such as RROD

Don't leave it in little places where it doen´t have space because the hot air of the 360 will "hit" the wall and that air will go back to your 360, have it like 1 meter away from the wall.

If you don't understand something ask me...

I recently had the three red lights. I sent it in to Microsoft and they sent me a replacement console plus a 1 month membership of xbox live. I sent it out on the 7th and got it back on the 17th. A pain in the butt yes but I feel they made up for it with the speedy replacement and 1 month of live. I survived and I'm enjoying my 360 just as much as I did before.

well put it in a well ventilated place maybe a cool place and its better to lay it down opposed to having it standing up because if it stand up it will block the fan and laying it down will prevent disc scratching ftw

I've gotten the RROD message three times but I would just turn it off and back on and all good. It always happened when I initially turned it on. I was told my a MS rep that RROD is either your hardward is FUBARed or that the power brick messed up or something. I'm guessing that's what I've gotten... 3 times, lol

If there were something you could do to avoid it means that there's something that all of these people are doing to cause it. Mine RROD'd and I took extremely good care of it. It worked well for a year and a half, then when I downloaded the latest firmware it never came on after the reboot.

About all you can do is maintain the service contract once the 3 year warranty expires. That's what I plan to do.

Play the hell out of it.

It gets the RROD? they repair it for free.

Mine died after 7 months.

Replaced for free, no big deal.
