You can't because it's the other way around. Your Gamertag is associated with your e-mail account. The only way would be to start a new hotmail (window's live) account with the gamertag you want, but you won't be able to use the gamertag you already have in use... at least, that's how i understand it.

Okay so what is it exactly you are saying? If it's the other way around then can I get into my hotmail account (the one I want ) and somewhere in the settings maybe set my gamertag in there? And thanks.

Yeah, my hotmail account died long time ago and it wont let me revive it.  So I can't use xbox.com at all.

Microsoft is the bloodsucker. I just read a post on joystiq that says calling 1-800-4MY-XBOX or waatever the number is will get you the answer. You cannot change it. MS is "cracking down" on hooligans and nerdowells who change their emails. This was supposed to be for our conveniance, wtf is up?

Major Nelson has this to say on his website.

Q: The email address assigned to my Xbox LIVE account is different to the email address I use on my PC for Windows LIVE messenger. Is there a way for me to still access my messenger account?
A: Not at this time. We are working on the ability to allow users to change the email address they originally used when signing up for Xbox Live. The feature will be available in an upcoming release.

So, you will be able to change it, but who knows when that upcoming release is.

it means that they will update it so that you can use various msn accounts from your 360, not just the one linked to your gamertag so chill out, its coming you just have to wait..

Well if you want to cancel your Live subscription then you get the live account off live completly ( i think you can) then change the name for free with the now offline account then, you make a live account with your new gamertag making sure it's 18 + . If your about achievements then theres away on www.xbox.com to transfer achievments while switching form offline to online. This keeps achiements not friends.
