Right. Also, you get more "points" for beating a team with a higher cumulative skill level (EG: 22342 beating a 44323, each number representing the skill/rank of the player).
From what I've been told, playing Wingman is the fastest way to rank up - especially if you come in 1st place.
Is there a way to check stats or anything? COD series tells you how many points you have, and how many you need to rank up and what not. Does Gears not have anything like this?

Does Gears not have anything like this? sadly no its just a blind rank up/down. i won like 20/30 matches and ended up ranking down after a loss. their system is broken, they should make it based off of you leaderboard spot like top 5% are highest rank and what not.
The system is based around that awful chess game on the XBLA, apparently. The game predicts what team is going to win, and if you are on the team predicted to lose and manage to win, you gain a lot more points than you would normally. The whole system seems pointless though, and like it was thrown in in the last minute.
If they introduce a rank system, it should involve xp to rank up, not trueskill !! But i do hate it when you have to rank up to unlock guns and stuff tho :@
