I'm all for it... the Avatars are a blatant rip off of Miis, but I say anything that adds something for free, to the already BEST online service, is nothing to complain about. I like the interactive backgrounds too. I love the look, although that's an iPod rip off... but overall, after the initial shock of it all, I can't wait.

I am rather intrigued. Whathappenedlast year at this time? So many new 360 owners and LIVE accounts at once, that basically all XBL was ***** up for a good while (about a week if I remember correctly). What sucked the most was that it seemed to hit the most popular game the worst, COD4, which had me wanting to shoot someone... someone from the LIVE team.
My live is not connecting either i didn't know about the maintenance because i just fixed my xbox this morning and didn't connect it online till 8:30pm eastern time, but i was getting an error on the connection sayin something about my "MTU" when i was testing the internet, the thing i want to know is if everybody is out of live now, or if it's just me who got the failing trying to connect. By the way my 360 died on me in july and i "resurrected" it today...

Hardcore gamers bought their console already, what's left for Microsoft are teens and casual gamers. These gamers wont buy their console based on one exclusive more or less but based on the cool extras. Which is home, avatars and mii's. The avatars are needed if Microsoft wants to keep ahead of Sony. And now that they are here I dont mind them so much either, it could be cool to have them wear clothing from my favorite games and use them in future online games. I wouldnt mind using my avatar in some over the top violent cartoon shooter.

It was waaayyy more than a week man. It was close to a month, according to most people, but my friends and I agree that Live was slow a lot over the course of the next several months. It was a terrible period for Live.
