I only have guitar hero 3 legends of rock atm. Right now I can beat any song on medium and some songs on hard and maybe 2 songs on expert. Other than that I totally suck. I dont understand why though, almost everyone around me who has either GH or RB can beat any song on expert, heck this 13 year old girl across the street from me can beat any song on expert (except TTFAF) in GH hero.

My question is how do you guys do it? Does real guitar lessons (no i dont play real guitar) help you? I play alot on practice mode on medium-ex pert on guitar hero and its still hard. Hammer ons and pull offs really get to me and for me its impossible.

Im planning on getting RB2 and I dont wanna invest $150+ on a game im not gonna enjoy cause i suck at.

So how do you guys do it? any tips?

Practice, practice and more practice. When i started playing I couldnt beat a song on medium on GH2. Then I got to the point where Six and Hangar 18 were childs play, and Jordan was challenging but i still beat it. Then GH3 came along and I beat TTFAF without much trouble. It takes a while, just play every day and slowly work your way up.

I can play on expert. And only a few months ago I could only play on medium, but I pushed myself to hard. All I can say is practice, once you get hard down going to expert is pretty simple.

You'll get is soon enough.

Also, once you get to expert, HO's and PO's become your best friend. Might as well get used to them

I never played the first GH. I started on Guitar Hero II. And even then i didnt buy my own copy until it was out on the 360. And when i first started, i could barely beat some songs on Medium. Every time i play either game, i get better and better. Now i can beat everything on Hard and 5 start almost all of them. And i can beat almost everything on Expert with the exception of maybe 5 songs total between both games. And im getting better every time i touch it. I hate to say it, but it just takes practice. It probably doesnt help that you got the hardest one of them all difficulty wise in GHIII. But it should make learning Rockband and GH World Tour easier.

yep... it's a practice thing. It helps to take time to learn the tricks of the genre seeming the games would rather throw tricks to mess up your strumming than be realistic. The first step for me is getting use to multiple 3 note sections with the minor pause in it. Then you start seeing required hammer-ons and pull-offs... these are mostly to screw up your timing again instead of being because the 'notes are close together' bs that the game throws at you. Also the games differ in how accurate a HO PO must be. RB is pretty tight with it, GH3 you just have to have the button pushed to have it register. Learn how to up-strum (alt strum) seeming it is better to have gravity help the strum bar get ready for the next note and on many parts learn to play up and down constantly to hit them all. There are still going to be those songs that defy sense though and just throw you off a bridge when it comes to difficulty in comparison to the songs around it, even on the same or a lower difficulty. Those you can't do much but just practice it over and over until you either get lucky, skilled enough, or give up. Unfortunately those sort of songs are rarely my taste of music so I give up rather than subject myself to the rubbish and go insane...

my 12 year old nephew wipes the floor with me on GHIII, I just play for fun the songs I like, I don't try to beat the game on hard or expert or get the archievements, JUST SIMPLE, CLEAN, FUN, isn't that why we play in the first place? to have fun and be entertained?, don't worry that much.

playing real guitar helps some becouse it gives you more speed strength dexterity and acuracy. but it doesnt help you all that much and it is almost nothing like playing real guitar. you just have to practice over and over.... and knowing when to use your star power helps too. umm.....sometimes you just have to skip a song and go back. play the quick play mode if you have to. and dont give up.

all you can do is practice. u have to practice and learn as you go and everyone has different ways and techniques. maybe some parts with blue and orange if you cant use ur pinky good slide ur hand down and use the other three or vice versa. just keep playin them. ive practiced so much that there are some songs on expert and hard i can almost do the whole song without looking at the screen. and master the hammer ons and pull offs they will be ur best friend. rainging blood took me a long time to beat until i got hd's and po's down

this was my experience

my friends got mad at me because i kept playing hard, and not expert.so i man'd up and started playin expert, got pounded but i kept on.i borrowed gh3 from a friend and got towards the end of the setlist, then had to give it back.then a couple weeks later got rockband, very easy on expert once playing gh3.played that alot on guitar, and then went to guitar hero 3 and wow,was alot better.my recommendation, get rockband, disc or full bundle, whatever you can afford, play expert on it,and i think you will be better at gh3,least thats how i got good at expert.beat the dragonforce 3 pack within a week :D.

im yet to beat ttfaf because of the intro.past couple of weeks ive been playin gh3 4-5x a week, and today was excited, got through the intro almost, got to where the scale starts almost, saw it but was close to failing and failed the song :'(.then after that just got worse and worse.so i got mad and put it away.ill go back to it in a couple days and i should get it and FINALLY take on the song.

well when i started i suked and i play real guitar but i got better just like real guitar just keep at it and you get better. Ho and Po's are a must and learn how to hit the different types of note patterns. Also learn how to do guitars heros ver of finger tapping and your good.

GH and RB on expert are child's play to me now.

its important that you push yourself move up to harder difficulties even though cant play them and try because thats how you get better.

pick your favorite song and work your way up on that song once you five star a song your are ready to play it at the next level and you'll see that the jump from medium to hard is huge but from hard to expert isn't that bad. It kinda helps if the song you pick is kinda hard to begin with. The song I learned on and leveled up on was Message in a Bottle by the police, just make sure you 5 star is on every level. It makes it easier doing it with one song because you know the rythem, and you can't just kinda feel or sense were the missing notes are from hard to expert when you play it.

TO be honest with you, just keep practicing! I found it to be better practicing on one difficulty harder than what I was trying to get good at (i.e. try beating a song on expert for a while, then by the time you try to beat it on hard it will seem and be much easier) You need to get your timing and finger/hand endurance up in order to play alot of the songs on hard and expert (you're going to go through numerous hand cramps for a few days.) Once you get bette, hitting notes will become instinctual.
