Ok heres where i stand:
The majority of my collection is taken up by 'proper games', by this i mean games that i actually wanted. These games, i will complete once or twice, but after that i sit down and try and go for every achievement i can get.
The small part of my collection that isnt made up of proper games, is made up of 'achievement games', i dont try and buy every single easy game i can find, but if i go into my local game shop and i see a preowned copy of an easy game for about £10, then ill buy it.
So im a bit of both really. I play games because thats what i am, a gamer, but if i see a bargain even though it isnt a game id usually buy, ill get it.
I like them and think they add more to the game but am not obsessed with them, also I don't think they have anything to do with you skill just how much time you haveGreen_Iugana
Hmm in my case i disagree with that. I spend eight hours+ with my gf every day, plus i have school to go to, 3 hours of homework each night, plus extra revision. My gaming time is extremely limited but i still manage to rack up a good gamerscore, even if i have a few easy games on my score :P
I like the fact that I can get awarded for doing things in a game based on how much I play it but I'd feel pretty stupid if I forced myself to play a game I dont like just so I can improve my gs. Gaming is a fun hobby for me but it would stop being one if Ibeat myself up over not maxing out my gs. I think some people take them to seriously and now they want to try and ruin my time online helping them get points. "For the last time! No I do not want to help you get the overkill acheivement in Halo3!"
Gaah!
Play for fun, But I do like trying to get the hardest ones in terms of difficulty in a game. So far im proud of my Stranglehood on hard as it was tough for me.
As well as im hoping to get alot on Ace Combat 6 I seem to be doing well on multiplayer so maybe found the game genre im good at :P
Yea, I'm with most of you. The quality of the game is more important, I'm not going to play a crappy game just for the achievements. I think the gamerscore can be an impressive bit of geekness, but not when it's bloated with a bunch of throwaways.
Here's the way I look at it. Before achievements, a game relied only on it's own graphics and gameplay to sell. If a game was crap, no one would buy it. Now that any game can have achievements, all of a sudden a lot of people like to play crappy games. This tells the developers of crappy games "hey we don't have to improve at all, as long as the achievements are easy, we can stay in business!" And so the cycle continues.
I buy a game because it appeals to me, it looks like something I'll enjoy for a long time. Achievements are a nice little list of things I can do and focus on if I wish to once I've finished the campaign or have grown tired of the main objective of the game.Galzakian
Me too. Sometimes I compare myself to my friends and see if I can beat them or get the same unlocked as them. I never compare myself to strangers though because I simply don't care enough. I don't have a single game where I have unlocked every achievement.

wtf? i highly doubt your telling the truth. thats almost a full day
I buy games because the games look fun, play thru them, and then mop up all the achievements I didn't get the first time.
However, I have rented games just to increase my GamerScore, not gonna lie about that

No need to worry about that mate. Microsoft will soon be imposing new rules on achievements, such as a minimum amount of achievevements and making it impossible to receieve eg. 500 gamerscore for completing a level.
sorry i cant provide evidence as i forgot which site i read it on.

I meant 8 hours with my gf on days which i dont have school, if i managed 8 hours with my gf, homework school and revision all in one day then id be superman....
I play games for fun but i will check the acheivments before i play and go out of my way to get them unless there really hard then i let them slide. But i have rented games like KingKong for the acheivments i wont lie.
Gamertag- Ace Of Power

overall I play games for the game..but I also believe that achievements is one of the coolest aspects of the 360....I try to unlock as many as I can with out getting too obsessive about it. They mean nothing, but they are cool to get when you beat a game, or do something cool. I miss them when playing my ps3...feels kind of empty with out them....they are a small incentive and human beings, no matter how small always respond well to incentives and that is what makes the whole system sooogenius, especially when a game develope reallyputs them to good use..aka Dead Rising:)
