I recently got online and last week everything was fine meaning my connection had no lag but now that's all I get. I am wired and I share my internet with my pc through a gateway modem given to me by Verizon. I had also checked my bandwith speed last week and it was something like 1200k. What can I do to find the reason for my lag? Thanks

It could be that gateway modem you're using. I share my connection with my pc as well and I prefer to go through a little 4 port d-link hub/router. I know people with Verizon service and they claim it's reliable so I don't think it's your service.

The first thing I would probably suggest is not sharing your connection to see if that fixes the problem. Naturally if you're sharing your connection then the chances of getting lag increase. Also the lag doesn't have to be your fault. It could be the person hosting the games you're playing fault.

well mine I think its a gateway/router b/c it has a 4 port thingy , meaning I have 4 slots for an ethernet cord . Why would this be the problem when last week it was working fine?

It could be un-reliable.....hardware does give out. Especially if it's cheap. Does every game you play in lag or only some games?

Its not the host b/c I play 2 different games and multiple times. I will try it without my pc connected and see what happens . My mother in law mentioned that it could be the cold weather b/c the inles out there could be frozen , sounds stupid to me or is it?

Definitely stop sharing your connection with your PC when on x-box live. Whenever my g/f hops online I take a huge hit in bandwidth. Also if you have digital cable try turning the box off. I was having some minor lag issues a month back and never thought to turn of the cable box. Sure enough all fixed.

i recently thought i had lag on battlestations...then i put a fan on my 360 and it ran smoothly....seems my 360 was getting too hot and the game was running laggy....i'd give it a shot and see if it helps....as for straight up lag.... reset modem..or call provider and check your speeds or go to 2wire.com and check your speed yourself with a simple test

Mehoff88. First, YOU SUCK. Second, XPoX 360 has been out a year longer so wait and see. 3rd, blue-ray is outselling hd-dvd 2-1, Owned back at you. 4th, PS3 online service is free, you mugs have to pay for it. 5th You get what you pay for. Future proof technology vs outdated crap. PS3 will **** Xpox 360 a year from now, then I will be laughing the hardest. Stoopid **** mygear
Im glad I dont own this Xpox your talking about

I probably should ve mentioned this earlier but I mostly play at night when my pc is turned off so if I disconnect my pc , would it really matter? Someone mentioned to have the fan blow on it but this happens to me right away when I get online and I rarely play more then 1 hour. Besides that says there's something wrong with the console and maybe you should get them to fix it.

Are you wireless? Is there any chance that someone is connected to your network?

ok so I disconnected my pc and went online but I still found lag . I also noticed that lately my internet is been running slow so maybe it is my router/gateway . Are there any other things that I should check before I call Verizon?
