It works exactly like the watch instantly on the netflix website. There is no limit to how many movies you can watch per day (as long as you have a netflix plan with unlimited watch online). It's been pretty good quality, but I'd say that it's dvd quality at best. It can sometimes be a bit grainy. Also, there aren't very many new release movies that you can choose from, most are at least a couple of years old.

IT works great but Netflix should really put some new movies on.

Although the fact that it has every season of The Office, Lost, Heroes, Faulty Towers, and Weeds is pretty cool

I think Netflix is moving into the direction of having all movies accessed via instant watch, but with licensing restrictions right now, it's not something they can do legally. There are a handful of films that you can watch on the computer or via the Roku that you're not able to watch via the Xbox, BUT, if you have a subscription with them already, it's only a plus since there is absolutely no charge for it. When they added instant watching, they did not increase their pricing, so this is just an added bonus.

As for the new releases, if you belong to Netflix, you're already getting hard copies in the mail. Keep the new releases in your queue and they'll automatically keep sending them your way as they receive your DVDs back.

They do offer a plan that only allows 1 DVD at a time with a minimal of 2 exchanges in 1 month. If you have this plan, you are limited to 2 hours of instant watching per month. I don't know anyone who has this plan, but it's the only one that limits instant watching. All other plans come with unlimited watching. There are really a lot of great titles that are available, IMO. Unless you're one to watch EVERY movie at release, there have to be movies on the list that you'd enjoy but have not seen. They also include a lot of TV shows. I got involved in the British program of sitcom, The Office, which is better than the American version and I also have come to love Dexter.

I've stopped buying DVDs, too. I looked at the 100s upon 100s that I've purchased (that's not to mention all the money invested in the VHS that are trash now), and I ask, when will we really watch these again? The answer is probably, NEVER. Of course there are always going to be mega hits that are must buys, but for the vast majority, that's not the case. With Netflix, you can start a movie according to your own schedule, watch anything on their list 1000 times if you want, etc.. If you have the subscription anyway, you have nothing to lose.

is the "pursuit of happiness" there because my mom wants to watch it and will start the free trail later this week? Also, what plan do I have to pick if I want to instant watch?

Unless you go with the cheapest plan they have, you will have the ability to watch as many movies as are available in a month. It's unlimited and they have over 12,000 titles available with more added each day. Keep in mind, connection speed does play a HUGE part in your netflix instant watching experience. If you're on Live though, I'm sure you already have a high speed connection. As for, The Pursuit of Happiness, it's not available right now as an instant watch. I've had the DVD shipped to my house twice already though and have yet to watch it. LOL My family has seen it, it's just not been here when I've been in the mood or had the ability to watch it. Some movies are added to instant watch temporarily (and if you add the movie to your instant queue, you will see the expiration date). A lot of newer movies (not necessarily a new release though) are added for a period of time; roughly a month, then, they are removed from the instant watch feature and at that point, you'd need to get the hard disk. Now I never watched, Lost, but this could likely be the reason some said they were able to watch it while others will say it's not available. Of course, these titles will always be available in the hard copy. Since it's the most economical way to go, we're on the 3 DVDs at a time. It's roughly 18 a month with tax and at all times, we have 3 DVDs coming or going. The day Netflix receives a disk we returned, they immediately send the next one in my queue (instant queue and regular queues are different, so they'll never send a hard copy of something in your instant watch queue, unless you move it there of course. The only bad thing I'm not crazy about is, you can't search for movies via the Xbox. You have to search them out on your computer, add them to your instant queue, t hen they will appear on your instant queue via Xbox. I'm not sure how many you can add, but I'd bet it's upward to 100 movies, if not more. I did hear the Roku allows 150, so that's probably somewhere around what you can add to your queue for Xbox, too.
