It is great and painstakingly difficult at times.

The game loves to punish you for not knowing what to do.

It's really good and not as difficult as all the write ups say as long as you take your time with it. I've only gone probably 35% of the way through it but so far it's not that bad, hard yes, but it's doable.

Hard, but hard more because it takes a long time to go through each area, has a great deal of trial and error and requires a lot of patience. Personally I feel the first game (Demon's Souls) was the better game because it was a tighter experience, actually had some semblance of a story, and its difficulty felt more fair. Dark Souls delves into trial and error a bit too often for its own good. It's not a bad game, though, just be very aware of what you're getting yourself into as it's not for everyone.

one of my favorite games on xbox 360. its a game that i'll never sale or trade in. and i trade in about 95% of my games. The multiplayer is ground breaking and its a hella of a lot of fun.

It's a great game, but it's definitely not for everyone. Expect around 30+ hours if you're moderately skilled, but that count can easily climb depending on how you go about leveling up and how much patience you have at the game's really tough parts- which are indeed really, really tough.

I finished in about 60 hours, and I immediately started New Game+ after clearing. I enjoyed it that much. I've only done that for a few titles. Clearing areas in 15 minutes now after taking an hour and a half the first time around. Feels good man.

It is a terrific game with a great amount of replay value thanks to its creative implementation of online play as well as its new game+ mode.

The game's difficulty has certainly been exaggerated since its release. Taking a practical approach to the combat in the game will yield a generally enjoyable experience with a minimum amount of death.

For example in combat I have notice sword is an unusually popular option, especially greatsword. Certainly if you must feel you need to use a sword to enjoy the game then go ahead ,but nearly every blood stain I come across involves someone using a sword. If you die a lot then don't use swords. There are serious disadvantages to using swords. They have wide and unnecesary movements when you attack leaving you open to getting pummeled, and they are terrible in small corridors because sometimes they hit the walls mesing up your swing. Try a spear instead. Minimal amount of unnecessary movement and you can attack from behind your shield.

I just completed it for the first time after about 60 hours on my save. I took my time with it because it was honestly the best gaming experience I've had in years. The game is punishing but very rewarding. The hardest part of the game will be your first 15 hours while you figure out the game's mechanics, but it is well worth it and I personally found it fun trying to figure everything out. It's a must play, man. The difficulty is way overblown. That being said, the game is extremely unforgiving, but always fair. The controls are perfect and the only flaws are some framerate stuttering and enemies often falling or getting stuck in objects (which you will often appreciate).

I had a falling out with Dark Souls after playing for about 20hrs... The constant feeling that i was lost or going the wrong way was unbearable. And i always had a sense i was missing important items that would make playing less frustrating, and got into the habit of researching every new area online. Eventually i got so stressed that i had to stop playing. Just picked it back up last week, and put 10 hours in... Halfway through Blight Town. I refuse to look online now and play like i dont know any better... Makes things more enjoyable when i DONT know what im missing :P

Im waiting till this game is about $5 or $10 before I buy it... Why? Because I bought Demons Souls at release and I never beat it, and I broke several controllers playing it. Its extremely difficult to the point where you rage quit after 5 minutes, and its trial and error. I liked it but ugh, it was just so damn hard. That being said, it's one of the very (VERY) few games out that once you actually get passed an area that youve been stuck at for a week or so, it feels really damn good.

I'm going on 110+ hours with this game for my SECOND playthrough...owned it since release and believe me, I don't even want to look at the game clock for my first run through.

Took me 40 hours to beat it. Steep learning curve, but really fun.
