I think in all fairness people have EVERY right to be upset about the game's length. However I enjoy just about every aspect of the game, i agree with most and can say the game is rather short. Considering i beat half the game (did everything up to getting in the spire and back out of it) in about half of a day, i can say the game is pretty short if you're a lengthy gamer and by that i mean playing games for several hours at a time. Anyway, you're right for most of the part. The story is very short and the fact that finding your sister after choosing the wish of "love" in the end of the game MAY only be released in the DLC, its kind of a let down.
Nonetheless i'll agree with you as well and say that the game has MANY other aspects to it other then just playing the main game that gives players countless hours of gameplay. Hunting all 50 gargoyles, getting all 50 keys, finding the legendary weapons, buying the castles and other big expensive structures. But on top of those positives, you eventually think about this issue. "What am i doing this for?" You spend all this time trying really hard to get all these rare and strong things, but then for what. You beat the pathetically worthless boss what more is there to do. Then you learn about the secret island with something much like the crucible called "The Arena"
Just realized i kinda got carried away...haha.....I truly think the game IS too short, there is so much more that they could have done with it considering i beat it in about 3 days and working on a 2nd time through and beat half of it in less then a day. So it could be a bit longer.......but with the replay value and the extra things put into consideration, its a tough debate, even for me cause its making me ramble alot. haha
If you power through the main quest, then yes, it's short. Those that want to do that are missing the point of the game entirely. There's more to just powering through a game. Might as well just play sports games if that's all you want.VoodooHakthat is so untrue and sounds ridiculous. If you power through the main quest.....you're not missing the point whatsoever, the point of the game is avenging your sister's death which is exactly what you're doing by powering through it. And also by saying someone might as well go play a sports game is about the stupidest thing i've ever heard. Sports games v. RPG's such as Fable 2 is about the most opposite comparison. There is not point to sports games just an updated roster and graphics.
People have been crying "fable II is 2 short"(see what I did there) but in what sense. The Game isn't too short, the main quest is. And even then it ranges from 10-15 hours. This is an RPG! why are people complaining about the main story! There are a vast amount of side-quests, distractions like (jobs and families) and much to explore (demon doors, gargoyles etc.) which push it into the 35-45 hour range. There is also the fact that playing as a different alignment changes the game (towns become festering crapholes or prosperous cities, people fear you shop keepers stop selling too you or vice-versa and there's co-op. Mind you it's flawed, but hey there's co-op there whic you can find some enjoyment(possibly). Mass effect was 10 hours if you did no side quests but when you did most of them it was 30. Plus the fact there were different difficulties and class bonuses for completing the game (i.e shotgun for an engineer) which really gave it a lot replay value. Fallout 3 is amazing but if you finished the story with half the side quests you'd have pushed 60 hours. It's so long to do it all over again as a a good person seems just too much considering other games out right now and on the way.Long story short, Fable II has great longevity and is imporperly bashed for having a being short, even though it should be,if anything, the main story. because sidequests are boring
because making money is quick and easy and not the way pm lied to us about
because every job is the same mini game with a different twist
becaause the combat system is trash and doing the sidequest is more of a chore
the only town that change is old bowerstone.
i dont like going on a treassure hunt
being a good player will results of the whole town harassing you, stalking you, and following you everywhere.
having a family is boring.
I enjoy the sidequests, I do a job from time to time, I love the combat system, I don't care about changes from Fable 1, having mobs of people adore me is amusing to me, and families are somewhat entertaining. Pretty much everything Dthach listed as a con, I find enjoyable. Hence why I'm going to get more than 50 hours out of the game. Fable 2 isn't for everyone. It is great at what it aims to do. If you don't enjoy what that entails, you obviously will just stick to the storyline and not get the most out of the game. That doesn't make it a poor or a short game, that just means YOU didn't enjoy it. The dog is an especially impressive addition to this game. It's a game that aims for immersion, and it does that more successfully than most. Personally, I actually cared about my actions and the effects they had, regardless of their depth or lack there of. This game is everything and more than what was promised in the first Fable, and it's one of the primary reasons I bought a new xbox after ditching my old one in the spring.Staryoshi87
what so great about the combat system? you know the combat system suck when the only way to add difficulty to the game is to add endless waves of enemies.
my problem with fable 2 is that it feel more like an piss poor action game with an rpg twist to it. i was expecting an rpg game but received something totally different. I was expecting my journey to be unique to me. the only thing that changes during fable 2 is old bowerstone and how npcs reacts to you. Having a family is pointless, it just more NPC to the game for you to interact with. thats one more to the list. interacting throught expresssion is the worst way to interact.
Like most hybrid games, you'll get a workhorse in both fields but not a gem in either. The RPG elements exist in the upgradeable equipment and skills, the action elements exist in the gameplay and fighting system. I enjoy combat because you can become omnipotent, not in spite of it. I thrash 'em with lightning, rape 'em with my blade, and blast 'em with a pistol. It makes one feel like a hero to be able to cut down waves of enemy imo :). I would call it more an adventure RPG than an action RPG, though. The side-elements like familes, etc, don't have to have significant repercussions to be entertaining imo. A lot of what you do in Fable is for a sense of self-satisfaction. If you don't like that, that's fine. I thoroughly enjoy it though. Your interaction with your dog especially adds to the experience. Sure he gets annoying when he's constantly digging up treasure, but he's worth the effort :)what so great about the combat system? you know the combat system suck when the only way to add difficulty to the game is to add endless waves of enemies.

The game is about 30 hours long, that's plenty long enough.
You do the main quest, you do each other quest once and then you see the credits.
The idea that games have to be 40-50-60 hours is crazy. THAT'S WHY THEY MAKE NEW GAMES.
30 hours is a good number for a game like this
