Less killer apps, but overall, more great titles.
1. Frontlines is terrible. I played it, and it isnt addicting. It's less than average. Sometimes I wonder how a game like this is even released for the public. Same goes for Conflict: Denied Ops.
2. GTA IV - need I say more?
3. Gears of War - Game of the Year nod. Possibly GOTY.
4. MGS4 (bundle) - How great is this deal? 80gb harddrive which already costs $499, plus MGS4 video game and dualshock 3? I'm dropping $500 for this bad boy.
5. Fable 2 - another great RPG, people are not too excited about this now, but they will be when the release date is officially announced.
6. Too Human - I could care less about this game. Graphics looks average, gameplay looks boring. Nothing about this game screams attractive. Maybe I'll be wrong?
7. Prototype - one of my most anticipated games of the year. Total destruction at your fingertips.
8. Bionic Commando - Although their 2D-3D classic counterpart Bionic Commando Rearmed looks to be more interesting, Bionic Commando on the 360 looks to be a promising game so far. Huge and vast environments with amazing detail, innovative bionic arm that shoots a grapple and enables you to climb buildings, swing from structure to structure, and even throw large objects at your foes. Another highly anticipated title that cant be missed.
9. Left 4 Dead - Graphics arent eye candy, but L4D is zombie stompin' fun. What looks to be your character along with 2-3 other survivors, possible squad game? Possible co-op? Possible 4player co-op? If so, that would be so amazing! Call it your typical zombie themed game, with huge environments, and all out zombie killing fun. This is on my list.
10. Halo Wars - I'm not a fan of RTS, but Halo Wars will not be missed by Halo fans. Although hype is not near the scale of Halo 3, or even Halo 2, it wont go unrecognized. Look for this title to be a big hit.
11. Dead Space - your glorified Resident Evil meets space man, sci-fi shooter has turned heads. We'll find out more about this mystery later this year.
12. Haze (PS3) - what was suppose to be multiplatform is now a PS3 exclusive. Another Generic shooter to hold us over until MGS4 and Gears of War 2? Possibly so. Environments look very bland, with little detail. Areas look empty when it should be full of detail and decor. I'm tracking this game down to see how it turns on in May. It could be average or great.
13. Borderlands - I know very little about this game, but the little that I do know about has kept me interested in this title until further news and previews.
14. Tiberium - another multiplatform, RTS turned shooter. Vids look amazing.
15. Rise of the Argonauts - probably the least popular of all the games this year. Not many people know about this title but it will be one of the biggest shockers this year. Watch out for this one.
16. Mirror's Edge - innovative, daring, is what an Xbox 360 game should look like. Another highly anticipated title to watch out for.
17. Dark Sector - Resident Evil meets Gears of War. DS looks generic but it has a deep storyline, amazing graphics, and cool looking bosses. Along with your trusty glaive, you can use other weapons like the shotgun, rocket launcher and many others. To add, DS features some of the coolest finishing moves.
18. Condemned 2 - Awesome new combat system that allows you to pulverize your enemies. Slam their face into a wall, or electrifying fence, or smash the opposition's face into a television set. If you're into survival horror FPS games, then this one is for you.
19. Killzone 2 - Killzone 1 but bigger, badder, cant wait.
20. Resistance 2 - Resistance 1 was a great game, and part 2 will be even better. If you're a fan of the first, dont miss out on this great shooter.
21. God of War 3 - coming soon? How soon? 2008 could be a possibility. Who knows how long they've been working on this game. But a 2009 date looks more realistic to me. Hey.. no one thought Gears of War 2 would come out this year and it will! So why not God of War 3, huh? I could only hope.
22. Resident Evil 5 - more than likely, a Q2 2009 release date. I wouldnt want them to rush this game anyways. It's definitely worth the wait. Come on zombies, meet Chris Redfield!
23. Final Fantasy 13 - dont expect this juggernaut title to show up this year, 2009 release date looks to be on the horizon for FF13 and FF13 versus. What about the promised third game? Square Enix said they will release three new FF games on the PS3. We've only seen and heard of two.. come on, SE.
24. Super Smash Bros Brawl - I thought SSB and SSBM were solid games. Nothing great. I haven't been playing fighting games since the days of Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat. But this will be a treat for the fans, enjoy.
25. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction - Finally another Splinter Cell game. Cant wait.
26. Mario Kart Wii - I had so much fun in the good ole SNES days with Mario Kart. I dont think I'll ever be able to reach that nostalgia again. This might appeal to the younger crowd and adults that haven't grown out of this classic game.
27. Banjo Kazooie 3 - finally a platform game on the Xbox 360. Yeah I know what you're thinking. I grew out of Mario Kart, but not Banjo Kazooie 3. It's probably even more "kiddy" than Mario games, but hell it's a platform game! And it's been long awaited, to say the least. Another highly anticipated title.
28. Alan Wake - just come out already. We're all waiting for you Mr. Wake.
29. Alone in the Dark - remastered, revamped, redone down to the nitty gritty. This game looks amazing! I never played Alone in the Dark before, so I'll be in for a real treat. "Lets mix some first aid spray here, with a lighter. Wah lah! We have an unconventional flamethrower!" Let's see what else he has under his sleeves.. or jacket.
30. Silent Hill V - the fifth installment to the ever popular survival-horror franchise. This is the year of survival-horror games. Another great title to own.
I'm probably going to end up buying 20 titles or more this year which easily tops 2007 by a mile. The year 2008 will be bigger and better than 2007, and this doesnt even include great games that already came out early 2008 like Lost Odyssey, Devil May Cry 4, Army of Two, Bully Scholarship Edition, and more. Lost Odyssey helped us start the year right, so let's continue forth with a big March with Ao2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Condemned 2, Dark Sector, and GTA4 in April. After Rockstar's monster title, the skies the limit. Us gamers are "itching" to find out what's the next big thing. I say, bring it on.
